We were delighted to have been contacted by the Education Correspondent of The Irish Times who heard about the different initiatives we run in the school to promote Reading for Pleasure. The article, which was published in last weekend’s edition of The Irish Times, explored changing patterns and attitudes towards reading amongst young people and looked at what a number of schools are doing to award students time and space to read for enjoyment! We’re so proud of our eight 3rd Year students who featured in the piece as representatives of the school! Over their first two years in St Joseph’s, these students have engaged with our visit to Rush Library, our timetabled Bookworm classes, our ‘Let’s Read’ and ‘Let’s Read at Home’ month long initiatives and challenges and some of these 3rd Years benefited from our TY Paired Reading programme with local Primary Schools when they were in 5th Class! They’ve experienced success in finishing books that they’ve chosen to read as a result of their participation in these initiatives which are run by our Literacy Team in the school! All of our 1st, 2nd and 4th Year students have a dedicated weekly Bookworm class on their timetables to facilitate reading for pleasure and we’ll be running our ‘Let’s Read’ interventions again in January 2027 📚📖📚 Our parent and guardian Bookclub regrouped last Wednesday - check TYRO if you would like to join!
