Richie White of Slievenamon Agri Services has been elected to the board of CEETTAR — a major voice for agricultural, rural and forestry contractors across Europe.

With Slievenamon Agri Services about to celebrate their 30th year in business, Mr White acknowledges that his contribution to the sector on a policy level, both nationally and internationally, is only possible thanks to his two younger brothers, John and Martin, and his late father, Pat, who operated a modest contracting operation in comparison to the 10 full-time and 3 part-time staff that his sons employ in Tipperary.

Congratulations to Richie and well done to the Association of Farm Contractors Ireland for the representation at EU level.

A busy week for FCI started off with the National Ploughing Championships on Tuesday.

Managing Director Ann Gleeson Hanrahan conducted media interviews with Agriland and Tipp FM.

We also had the opportunity to meet with Sharon Ni Bheolain and participate in a piece for RTÉ, where we highlighted that the current crisis extends well beyond the price of fuel. Contractors are facing escalating costs across the board.

A key point raised was the contribution that the agricultural sector has already made through carbon taxation. The FCI estimates that agricultural contractors have paid approximately €200 million in carbon tax to the exchequer over the past six years.

At a time when contractors are being asked to absorb further increases in costs, it is important that the scale of this contribution is recognised, and that the money being raised through carbon taxation is considered in the context of the significant financial pressures already facing family contracting businesses.

Contractors are calling for urgent action as marked gas oil (green diesel) prices peaked in August 2026.

The Association of Farm and Forestry Contractors in Ireland has asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, for an immediate meeting to address rising fuel costs and their impact on farm operations.

New data from the Association of Farm Contractors Ireland: 1 in 3 contractors have spread 450,000 litres less slurry this year.

Unusual growing conditions disrupted normal silage and slurry patterns, therefore contractors are asking Government for a temporary extension to the slurry spreading period based on actual ground and weather conditions.
