Desmond U13 traveled to Old Crescent for a match on Sunday.

Our U12 team got off to a great start to the season when they put in two fine performances against visiting Garryowen teams at our Cullinagh grounds last Sunday.

With just three training sessions under our belts, there was always going to be some rustiness in our first outing, but overall our lads strung together some great passages of play and proved to be more than a handful for our city opponents.

David Telners stood out with a barnstorming display – he was everywhere, tackling everything that moved, knocking players over like skittles, and bringing huge physicality to the breakdown. Micheal Fitzgibbon wasn’t far behind him, mixing a fantastic work rate in defence, with incisive attacking play in an impressive try-scoring performance. Charlie Lynch brought his usual leadership skills to the team, putting in an all-action, combative display, while also crossing the try line.

DG Peens had yet another try-scoring performance. He was a real threat every time he got the ball in his hands and had Garryowen defenders at sixes and sevens.

Elsewhere around the field we had some scintillating tries from Luke Wall, Owen O’Connor, Jerry Cahill, and Oscar Fitzgerald. Jamie Power came of age with his finest performance yet for the club, which culminated in a spectacular run from the half-way line, swatting off defenders like a young Jonah Lomu, to touch down for a fabulous score.

In a strong team performance, Sean Hogan was impressive at the breakdown, while Faan Klopper and Micheal Lowes made life very difficult for the Garryowen forwards. Matei Galagan had an industrious morning and is growing in confidence with every touch of the ball, while Mark Darcy mixed some slick passing with very fancy footwork to keep the opposition on their toes.

Paddy Fitzgibbon made his debut for the club and looked very comfortable with the oval ball. He got stuck in from the very beginning, and had an impressive display, topped off by a fine individual try. A real find for the club.

Many thanks to Garryowen for making the journey from the city and to our great neighbours Estuary RFC for also traveling to participate in the blitz and making it a fabulous morning of rugby.

Our U16s finally got their first match of the 26/27 season on Sunday after our first two matches were postponed.

A friendly match away to tralee RFC meant we could try a few things and maybe blast some cobwebs out.

It was a tightly contested affair with Tralee getting the winning score in the final play!
Great to get a competitive training match which showed us a few areas that might need tweaking.

Tries from Jamie Dunworth, Tom O'Sullivan, Ryan Cummins and Noah Daly......along with one conversion from Conor Mullenger saw us end up on the losing side of a 27....22 scoreline. Man of the match was Vlad Stalinevich.

Next up is a north munster league match against young munster.

Garryowen 3rd XV 39

Newcastle West 2nd XV team played Garryowen 3rd XV team in a friendly in ideal conditions in Cullinagh last Saturday.

Garryowen had the advantage of the strong wind at half time led 19-0. James Corbett opened our account with a well taken try which Darren Normoyle converted.

Garryowen scored two more tries before Andrew Nix and Kieran Copse scored tries, Andrew converted his own try. Chris O'Riordan scored our last try to leave the final score 24 39.

A busy weekend for our youth teams.

U18.5s came away with a 33–10 win over Garryowen in the Munster League.

U16s lost out 22–27 to Tralee in a friendly.

U15s lost 0–30 to Bruff in the Munster League.

U13s lost 7–33 to Old Crescent in the Development League.

What a morning at Killeline!

Our youth training sessions were in full swing this Sunday and what a turnout! Plenty of energy, smiles and craic from start to finish.

A massive thank you to all our volunteers who give up their time every week to make mornings like this happen.
