🌱 HYBRID TURF | NATURAL GRASS, REINFORCED

What exactly is hybrid turf?

Hybrid turf combines natural grass with synthetic reinforcement, creating a stronger and more resilient natural playing surface.

The reinforcement is installed within the turf surface, allowing natural grass to grow through it and establish normally. The result is a surface that retains the characteristics of natural grass, while providing additional stability in areas exposed to intensive use.

⚽🏉 WHERE CAN IT BE USED?

Hybrid turf is particularly effective in high-wear areas such as:
• Goalmouths
• Touchlines
• Warm-up areas
• Pitch entrances and exits
• Coaching and technical areas
• Other concentrated traffic zones

🌱 WHY USE HYBRID TURF?

✔ Improved surface stability
✔ Greater resistance to wear and divoting
✔ Better retention of grass cover
✔ Reinforcement of vulnerable areas
✔ Supports recovery under intensive use
✔ Maintains the characteristics of a natural grass surface

Unlike a fully synthetic pitch, the grass is still real. The surface continues to be managed as natural turf through mowing, irrigation, fertilisation, aeration and overseeding.

For many facilities, hybrid turf doesn't need to mean reinforcing an entire pitch. Targeting the areas that experience the greatest wear can provide an effective solution while retaining a predominantly natural playing surface.

This rugby pitch is a heavily used playing surface in one of the most visible locations in the city, with thousands of students, staff and visitors passing through College Park every day.
The pitch was originally constructed using a fibre-reinforced rootzone, but the ongoing maintenance approach has involved topdressing with a specific gritty sports-field sand — something a little different from the more typical medium/coarse sports-field topdressing sands.
For this renovation, our approach involved:
🌱 Lightly fraze mowing the existing surface
♻️ Using the Top Dress Recycler to bring some of the existing rootzone material back to the surface
🚜 Topdressing with additional imported material
🌾 Seeding the completed surface
✂️ Carefully managing the pitch throughout the grow-in period
An interesting part of the grow-in is that much of the routine cutting is being handled by the on-site FJD FRX robotic mower, while the day-to-day maintenance and establishment of the pitch is monitored and managed by our fulltime on-site groundsman.
A slightly different renovation approach for a unique, high-profile playing surface — now it’s all about giving the new grass the conditions it needs to establish. 👌🌱

Getting the details right makes all the difference. ⚽

Prior to its FIFA Quality field test, this 3G pitch had some deviations in its permanent sidelines. Even small dimensional inaccuracies can affect compliance with FIFA Quality standards, so our team was brought in to rectify the issue.

The works involved carefully surveying the pitch, correcting the permanent sideline, and ensuring the playing area met the required specifications ready for retesting.
