Work with Busy Working Professionals to build health and fitness 40+ in the Maynooth Area

21/08/2026

🏋️‍♂️ What’s the best type of training once you’re over 40?

If I had to pick just one, it would be resistance training.

Why?

Because as we get older, maintaining muscle and strength becomes increasingly important—not just for how we look, but for how well we live.

Regular resistance training can help you:

💪 Maintain and build muscle
🦴 Support stronger bones
⚡ Maintain strength and physical function
📈 Improve metabolic health
⚖️ Support balance and independence
🏃 Keep doing the activities you enjoy

And you don’t need to spend six days a week in the gym.

For most people, 2–3 well-planned resistance training sessions each week can be a fantastic foundation.

Focus on the basics.

Squat.
Push.
Pull.
Hinge.
Carry.

Then gradually increase what you’re capable of doing.

Of course, cardiovascular fitness, walking, mobility and everyday movement still matter enormously.

But if you’re 40+ and asking me:

“where should I start?”

My answer would be simple:

👉 Get stronger.

Because the goal isn’t just to be fit at 40.

It’s to build a body that’s still strong, capable and independent at 60, 70 and beyond.

Think of resistance training as an investment in your future self. 💪

Motivation comes and goes. That’s normal.

The people who make progress aren’t motivated every day. They’ve simply found a way to keep showing up — even when life is busy, energy is low, or they’re not really feeling it.

Some days you’ll train hard.
Some days you’ll just get it done.

Both count. 💪

Forget perfect. Aim for consistent.

Your future self will thank you for the days you showed up when you didn’t feel like it.

☀️ Summer doesn't have to mean losing all your progress.

Every year, I hear the same thing...

*"I'll get back into it in September."*

But here's the problem...

Fitness isn't about being perfect all year round.

It's about staying connected to healthy habits, even when life gets busy.

Holidays, BBQs, family days out and weekends away are all part of summer.

You don't need to avoid them.

You just need a plan.

Here are a few simple ways to stay active this summer:

🚶 Walk whenever you can.

🏋️ Aim for 2–3 quality workouts each week.

🌳 Choose active days out with family and friends.

📅 Schedule your exercise like any other important appointment.

⏱️ Remember that even a 20-minute workout counts.

Most people don't lose progress because they enjoy summer...

They lose progress because they stop completely.

Lower the bar.

Not your standards.

Something is always better than nothing.

Your goal isn't to have the perfect summer.

Your goal is to arrive in September feeling healthy, strong and ready to keep building.

💬 Which one are you committing to this summer?

☀️ Walking
🏋️ Gym
🚴 Cycling
🏖️ Staying active with the family

📱 Comparison is one of the fastest ways to lose motivation.

We see someone's transformation...

Their holiday photos...

Their PB in the gym...

And suddenly, we feel like we're falling behind.

But here's what social media doesn't show you...

❌ The years of consistency.
❌ The setbacks.
❌ The missed workouts.
❌ The moments they wanted to quit.

You're comparing your everyday life to someone else's highlight reel.

And that's never a fair comparison.

The only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday.

Celebrate the small wins.

🏋️ Showing up to your workout.
🚶 Going for your walk.
🥗 Choosing a healthier meal.
😴 Getting an extra hour of sleep.

These moments might seem small, but they add up to something big.

Remember...

Success doesn't come from trying to keep up with everyone else.

It comes from staying focused on your own journey.

Comparison steals confidence.

Comparison steals consistency.

Comparison steals progress.

Focus on becoming a little better every day instead.

💬 Have you ever caught yourself comparing your journey to someone else's?

Comment **FOCUS** if you're choosing progress over comparison today. 💚

😴 Feeling tired all the time after 40?

You're not alone.

One of the biggest myths is that low energy is just part of getting older.

It isn't.

More often than not, it's the result of a few daily habits that slowly drain your energy over time.

The good news?

Small changes can make a big difference.

⚡ Prioritise quality sleep.
🥗 Fuel your body with balanced meals.
🚶 Move every day—even if it's just a walk.
🧠 Find ways to manage stress before it manages you.

You don't need another coffee...

You need habits that support your body.

Remember, energy isn't something you find.

It's something you build.

One choice at a time.

If you've been feeling like you're running on empty, start by improving just **one** of these areas this week.

You might be surprised by how much better you feel.

💬 Which one do you need to work on most?

😴 Sleep
🥗 Nutrition
🚶 Movement
🧠 Stress

Comment below with the emoji that best describes you.

And if you know someone who's always saying, *"I'm just exhausted,"* send this their way. They might need to see it. 💙

🤝 Accountability isn't about someone shouting at you.

It's about having someone who won't let you quietly give up on yourself.

We all start with good intentions.

Monday comes...
You're motivated.
You make a plan.

Then life happens.

Work gets busy.
The kids need you.
You're tired.
One missed workout turns into two.
Before you know it, you're telling yourself you'll start again next week.

Sound familiar?

This is where accountability makes the difference.

Not because someone forces you to exercise.

But because someone reminds you why you started in the first place.

Someone who checks in.

Someone who celebrates your wins.

Someone who helps you get back on track when life gets in the way.

The truth is...

Most people don't fail because they lack knowledge.

They fail because they try to do it alone.

Progress isn't about being perfect.

It's about having the support to keep going, even when motivation disappears.

💬 Who keeps you accountable?

A training partner? A coach? A friend? Or maybe you're looking for someone who will.

🥩 Protein doesn't have to be complicated.

One of the biggest nutrition mistakes I see is people trying to completely overhaul their diet overnight.

Instead, start with one simple goal...

👉 Eat a little more protein at each meal.

Why?

Protein can help you:

💪 Build and maintain muscle
😋 Feel fuller for longer
🔥 Support fat loss while preserving muscle
⚡ Improve energy levels throughout the day
🏃 Recover better after exercise

The good news?

You don't need expensive supplements or complicated meal plans.

Simple changes make a huge difference:

🥚 Add eggs to breakfast.
🥣 Choose Greek yoghurt as a snack.
🍗 Include chicken, fish or lean meat at lunch.
🫘 Don't forget beans, lentils and tofu if you prefer plant-based options.
🥜 Keep simple protein snacks available for busy days.

Aim to include a source of protein every time you eat instead of trying to cram it all into your evening meal.

Remember...

You don't need the perfect diet.

You need one you can stick to.

Small improvements repeated every day will always beat big changes that only last a week. 📈

💬 What's your favourite source of protein?

Motivation is unreliable.

Some days you'll feel unstoppable.
Most days, you won't.

The people who stay fit don't rely on motivation—they build systems that keep them moving even when they don't feel like it.

Here are 3 ways to make consistency easier:

✅ Schedule your workouts like important meetings.
✅ Make it so easy you can't say no (even 10 minutes counts).
✅ Focus on never missing twice—one bad day doesn't become a bad week.

Fitness isn't about being motivated every day.
It's about creating habits that carry you through the days you're not.

Which one do you need to work on most? Let us know below. 👇

💭 Want to know the biggest difference between people who stay fit and those who keep starting over?

It isn't motivation.

It's habits.

So many people wait until they feel motivated before they begin.

But motivation is temporary.

Some mornings you'll wake up excited to train.

Most mornings you won't.

That's why successful people don't rely on motivation.

They rely on routines.

Start small.

🏋️ Two workouts a week.

🚶 A daily walk.

🥗 One healthy meal at a time.

These small actions might not feel like much today.

But repeated over weeks and months, they completely change your health.

Remember...

You're not trying to build the perfect fitness plan.

You're trying to become the type of person who doesn't skip their healthy habits.

The habit comes first.

The results follow.

💬 What's one fitness habit you're committing to this week?

Comment **HABIT** below and let's make it happen. 💪

🏋️♂️ Thinking about starting weight training?

Before you do, let's clear up the 3 biggest myths that stop people getting started.

❌ **Myth #1: I need to get fit before I join a gym.**

You don't get fit before starting.

You get fit by starting.

Nobody expects you to walk through the doors knowing everything. Every experienced gym-goer was once a beginner too.

---

❌ **Myth #2: Everyone will be watching me.**

The reality?

Most people are focused on their own workout, their own goals and their own insecurities.

People are far less interested in what you're doing than you think.

---

❌ **Myth #3: I need to train hard to get results.**

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is doing too much, too soon.

Training until you're exhausted isn't the goal.

Consistency is.

Two good sessions every week for a year beats six sessions this week and none next week.

---

The truth about weight training is surprisingly simple:

✅ Start where you are

✅ Learn the basics

✅ Focus on consistency

✅ Be patient

Confidence doesn't come before you start.

It comes because you started.

💬 Which of these myths have you believed before?

1️⃣ Need to get fit first

2️⃣ Everyone is watching me

3️⃣ I need to train hard
