Today watch how you use your body… do you twist and turn as you look behind to reverse your car? The Pilates spine twist will enhance spinal rotation. Do you bend down to pick up your washing or you may have dropped something or do you suffer with back pain? The Pilates spine stretch will give you more flexibility. It is a good stretch for both the back and the hamstrings and it teaches you to support and control that stretch by using your abdominal muscles.
How about when you get up from the chair? Maybe you are young, but when you get older these simple everyday needs can become harder, so start now to look after your body. If you are older then it’s never too late to start, exercises like the Pilates push up will strengthen the upper body.
Do you sometimes feel stiff in the hips… then try the Pilates leg circles for mobility. Are you slouching at your desk? Then you need to prevent future problems or help current back and shoulder problems with the Pilates swan to counter stretch for the many forward flexion activities that you do throughout the day.
What about balance and stability and protection for your back… then the roll up will strengthen and tighten your tummy muscles.
The powerhouse is the centre of your whole body, when strong it becomes the centre at which your arms and legs can work at their level best. As well as helping you maintain good posture and in terms of cosmetic appearances the lengthening upwards gives you a slimmer and taller appearance.
It is also crucial when preventing bad habits of slouching which crush your internal organs so that they cannot work at their optimum best.
All the exercises I have mentioned also work many more parts of the body and there are of course plenty more exercises. The beauty of these exercises is that the whole body is worked and conditioned. Also the flow and tempo that is required in Clinical Pilates gets your heart pumping and lungs are used at their full capacity as you breathe fully into the lungs and exhale out stale air.
Pilates actually is so important for you to feel and look your very best all of the time. It is a way of living… So come on start today and reap all the benefits now!

Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a specialised form of Pilates. It builds a strong core, increases strength and flexibility simultaneously. It improves posture, stability and alignment. It also emphasizes complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement and enhanced breathing control. You become acutely aware of how your body feels and how best to control your movements. Pilates will help alleviate back, neck and shoulder pain and strengthen the essential muscles with the restoration of normal movement patterns. Clinical Pilates focuses on the retraining of the deep stabilizing muscles (core stability) for patients with lower back pain as well as improving posture, strength and flexibility.

Clinical Pilates at Miranda Moran’s Physio Clinic, Newtownforbes, offers 1-on-1 injury and sports rehab as well as group classes designed for injury prevention and sports performance for all levels of fitness. The Clinical Pilates programme has shown extensive benefits to triathletes, rugby players, swimmers, golfers and many more elite and amateur athletes.

THIS PICTURE IS POWERFUL!! HERE IS YOUR REASON TO START AN EXERCISE PROGRAM TODAY!

The images above are MRI scans of a 40 year old triathlete compared to a 74 year old sedentary man compared to a 70 year old triathlete. In this picture the grey you see represents the muscles in the thigh region and the white represents adipose tissue (or fat). If we take a close look at these photos we see that the two triathletes who exercise regularly have similar muscle mass despite the 30 year age difference. However, the 74 year old gentleman who does not exercise regularly shows significantly less muscle mass than the other two. These photos directly contradict the age old tale that getting older means loss in strength and muscle mass and thus, loss in function.

Sarcopenia is the term used to describe age related loss in muscle mass begins after the age of 40 and is accelerated every decade after. However, what we know now is that participating in a regular exercise program will significantly slow this normal aging process and allow a person to function independently for as long as possible. The Fountain of Youth isn’t a pill you can take, it is achieved from a physically active lifestyle.

If you have had any aches or pains keeping you from participating in a regular exercise program or maybe you don’t know where to start call Shauna at Shauna’s Clinical Pilates today on (087) 1626833
