The athlete is quiet in the car. Slept badly. Answers in one word. Whatever is coming has already been happening to them for four days.
Seneca had this two thousand years ago. We suffer more in imagination than in reality.
Here is what is actually going on. Nobody competes once. They compete dozens of times before the day โ lying awake, driving, warming up, waiting โ and in almost all of those runs it goes badly. That is not weakness. The mind is scanning for danger and doing its job.
The trouble is the mind does not keep a separate folder for a rehearsed rep and a real one. Whatever gets run in detail, on repeat, with feeling attached, is being practised.
So by the start line, the collapse has had thirty-nine repetitions that week. The clean version has had none. Then everyone wonders why the training did not show up.
And afterwards it is almost never as bad as the version they were carrying. That gap between the two is where the freeze is built.
Here is something that works, and it takes two minutes. The night before, run it once โ clean. Watch it like footage first, calm, from the outside. Then run it again from behind their own eyes and let the feeling come. Every night until the day.
Even up the reps and a different version turns up.
If the week before is doing more damage than the day itself, doesn't it make sense to train that week rather than ignore it?

Today's All-Ireland final carries an extra storyline for one side โ Mayo's long wait since 1951, and the curse narrative that resurfaces every year they reach a final.
Set superstition aside and there's a real point underneath it: belief about one's own composure under pressure measurably affects performance under it. That's not folklore, it's a trainable mental state, and it applies well beyond sport.
The anchor technique is one practical example โ linking a small physical action to a state you've already felt at your best, built and rehearsed in advance so it's reliable when pressure hits. The part that determines whether it works: consistency in practice, not the action itself. The same cue, repeated in the same way, every time.

Years later, in his fifties, he set a Guinness World Record.
A year in casts. Six months in a wheelchair. He had to learn to walk again. Doctors set the limit โ Liam refused to sign it.
He went back to the gym on crutches. Later came a hip replacement, then a full knee replacement, then years of quiet work no one was watching. On 5 February 2022 in Limerick, he pulled 285kg off the floor โ a Guinness World Record, decades after he had been written off.
This week Guinness World Records shared his next chapter: Liam has written his memoir, Unbroken. His comeback, in his own words. As he puts it, disability doesn't mean inability.
The strength was always his. I was proud to play a small part on the mental side โ the mindset work and hypnosis, helping him stay calm when the bar felt heaviest. The training is rarely the problem. Under real pressure the body is ready long before the head is, and Liam learned to quiet the 95% that trying harder can't reach.

Congratulations, Liam. Long overdue.

"๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ง ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ซ."
If you've ever heard it right before the moment that matters โ and felt yourself tense up even more โ this one's for you.
You've put in the years. The training is in your body. Then the pressure arrives and that same body stops listening: shallow breath, tight chest, a mind that's anywhere but here. And afterwards comes the quiet question you'd never say out loud โ am I just not built for the big moments?
You are. Here's the mechanism nobody explains. "Relax" is a conscious command, and the conscious mind runs about 5% of you. The freeze lives in the other 95% โ a subconscious survival program that reads pressure as danger and hits the brakes before thought gets a vote. You can't out-argue it on the day. The advice fails. You don't.
But that program was learned, and anything learned can be re-learned: prime the state, trigger it on cue, rewire the pattern, lock it in โ until calm is your default setting instead of something you chase.
Would you agree the training was never the problem? Then give the other 95% seven days.

Most weight gain isnโt about food.
Itโs about emotional relief.
Stress โ Eat
Boredom โ Eat
Anxiety โ Eat
Loneliness โ Eat
Overwhelm โ Eat
Your brain learned something powerful:
Food = comfort.
Food = safety.
Food = reward.
And every time that loop runs, it strengthens.
Thatโs not weakness.
Thatโs wiring.
Emotional eating is a subconscious state-change strategy.
Youโre not craving sugar.
Youโre craving relief.
Hereโs what most people get wrong:
They attack food.
They increase restriction.
They shame themselves.
But restriction doesnโt rewire conditioning.
Willpower doesnโt dissolve emotional associations.
The shift happens at the root.
Because the real loop looks like this:
Emotion โ Automatic Behaviour โ Temporary Relief โ Reinforcement.
Break the reinforcement, and the behaviour weakens.
Practical reset you can use immediately:
1๏ธโฃ Pause for 90 seconds.
Cravings peak and fall like waves.
2๏ธโฃ Name the emotion out loud.
Labeling reduces intensity in the brain.
3๏ธโฃ Regulate your body first.
Slow inhale (4), hold (4), long exhale (6). Repeat 5 times.
4๏ธโฃ If you still choose to eat โ do it consciously.
Sit down. Slow down. Remove distraction.
Awareness interrupts autopilot.
When the nervous system feels safe,
the urge softens.
When identity shifts from
โI struggle with foodโ
to
โI respond consciously,โ
behaviour follows automatically.
Food becomes fuel.
Not escape.
Not sedation.
And that is where real change begins.

You donโt lose strokes because of your swing.
You lose them because of what happens in your mind seconds before you swing.
Most golfers train mechanics.
Very few train the subconscious patterns that decide whether you stripe itโฆ or slice it.
If your game feels inconsistent, frustrating, or mentally draining โ
Itโs not random.
Itโs programmed.
Here are 5 signs your subconscious is sabotaging your performance โ and how to fix them:
1๏ธโฃ Overthinking Every Shot
Grip. Alignment. Tempo. Donโt pull it left.
When your conscious mind tries to control everything, you disconnect from flow.
Fix:
Train one clear mental cue. One trigger word. One feeling.
Elite performance is simple โ not crowded.
2๏ธโฃ Tight Under Pressure
Shoulders rise. Grip tightens. Breathing shortens.
Your nervous system reads pressure as danger.
So it activates protection instead of precision.
Fix:
Slow your breath before every shot.
Pressure must feel familiar โ not threatening.
3๏ธโฃ Hesitation Before Impact
That tiny pause? That micro-delay?
Thatโs doubt.
And doubt is just an installed belief.
Fix:
Mentally rehearse successful swings daily.
Repetition + emotion rewires certainty.
4๏ธโฃ One Bad Shot Spirals
โTypical.โ
โHere we go again.โ
Your subconscious installs whatever you repeat.
Fix:
Replace criticism with instruction.
Speak like a coach โ not an enemy.
5๏ธโฃ Inconsistent Rounds
Calm one day. Scattered the next.
Thatโs not talent fluctuation.
Thatโs unstable internal programming.
Fix:
Condition the same pre-shot routine every round.
Consistency of mind creates consistency of results.
Imagine stepping onto the first tee calm.
Breathing steady.
Mind quiet.
Body relaxed.
You see the shot.
You feel it.
You execute without interference.
Thatโs subconscious alignment.
If even ONE of these resonatedโฆ
Itโs not your swing that needs fixing.
Itโs your programming.

The Winter Olympics begin today in Milano Cortina.
But for elite athletes, the real Opening Ceremony happened months ago โ inside the subconscious.
While the average athlete hopes to perform,
champions programme certainty.
They train the mind to reach Subconscious Automation โ
where the body moves faster than thought
and ex*****on happens without interference.
Thatโs the difference between coping with pressure
and using it.
THE PROOF IS IN THE PODIUM
Olympic history shows a clear pattern:
โข Soviet Olympic teams used psychological conditioning to dominate
โข Mary Lou Retton used hypnotic pain control to win gold in 1984
โข The Swiss Ski Team integrated hypnotic preparation before a medal sweep
โข Steve Ho**er removed mental blocks to win Olympic gold
โข Billy Mills credited hypnotic focus for the greatest upset in Olympic track history
โข Adam Nelson converted Olympic pressure into fuel
โข Tiger Woods has used hypnosis since age 13 to enter โthe zoneโ on command
Different sports.
Same principle.
WHY THIS WORKS
Under extreme pressure, the conscious mind tries to take control.
Thatโs where doubt, hesitation, and choking appear.
Hypnosis bypasses that interference and allows you to:
โข Stay calm while the world is watching
โข Prime neural pathways before ex*****on
โข Access peak state through anchoring, not emotion
You donโt rise to the occasion.
You fall to the level of your conditioning.
YOUR PERFORMANCE UPGRADE
A Mental Anchor is a physical trigger that tells the brain:
Now.
Now itโs time to execute.
Now itโs time to trust training.
Now itโs time to perform.
You donโt wait for confidence.
You trigger it.
If youโd like to learn how to build and use your own performance anchor under pressure, Iโve put together a FREE 7-Day Mental Performance Blueprint.

Affirmations donโt work because you say them.
They work when your body and nervous system agree with the words.
Most athletes repeat affirmations silentlyโฆ
while their posture is collapsed,
their breathing is shallow,
and their nervous system is still in stress mode.
Thatโs not conditioning.
Thatโs wishful thinking.
Hereโs how to turn affirmations into real mental training.
Use performance-based affirmations
Not hype. Not ego.
Statements your nervous system can actually accept:
โข I trust my training. My body knows what to do.
โข I stay calm, clear, and focused under pressure.
โข Pressure sharpens me. I perform when it matters.
โข I respond, not react.
โข I am confident, composed, and present.
Put them where you see them every day
Repetition beats motivation every time.
Use them as:
โข Your phone lock screen
โข On the bathroom mirror
โข In your training bag
โข On your bedroom wall
Your environment trains you whether you realise it or not.
Say them out loud โ with emotion
The subconscious listens to:
โข Your voice
โข Your breathing
โข Your posture
Stand tall.
Open your chest.
Slow your breathing.
Say the words like they matter โ because they do.
Repetition builds belief
Once = motivation
Daily = conditioning
Best times to repeat:
โข After training
โข Before sleep
โข During slow breathing
This is how confidence becomes automatic under pressure.
Train the mind like the body
Mental performance isnโt motivation.
Itโs repetition, physiology, and structure.

โ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐นรฉ
This isnโt arrogance.
Itโs mechanics.
Elite performance doesnโt begin with talent.
It begins with permission.
The brain will never allow the body to access its full capacity
if the subconscious identity says:
โIโm not that level.โ
Under pressure, the nervous system defaults to what feels safe and familiar โ
not what is possible.
Thatโs why belief isnโt motivational.
Itโs regulatory.
When an athlete doesnโt believe they are the best, three things happen automatically:
โข Effort caps under fatigue
โข Decisions tighten under pressure
โข Ex*****on drops in decisive moments
Not because theyโre weak โ
but because the subconscious is protecting an identity ceiling.
Pelรฉ understood this intuitively.
Belief isnโt about ego.
Itโs about alignment.
When belief and ability finally match:
โข Focus stabilizes
โข Confidence stops fluctuating
โข Performance becomes repeatable under stress
This is why elite mental training doesnโt start with tactics, mindset talk, or motivation.
It starts with identity installation.
Train the body without upgrading belief,
and youโll always perform beneath your true capacity.
Train belief correctly,
and the system finally allows access to everything youโve built.
Thatโs not confidence.
Thatโs permission to perform.
