Event #281, Sunday 23rd August 2026

Another fabulous morning at Shelbourne junior parkrun with balmy late summer weather and an atmosphere to match. We opened proceedings by welcoming four fantastic children to the Shelbourne family. Harry, Aeda, Rían and Louis thoroughly enjoyed their first outing on the tarmac of Shelbourne Park Playground We look forward to seeing you all again next Sunday when you get to continue your parkrun journey. Well done guys!

Louis’ sisters Mila and Ruby, along with Macy, were our milestoners today, picking up their 10, 25 & 25 event wristbands respectively. Maith sibh cailíní, here’s to the next target!

As it happens, Macy celebrated her notable achievement with a personal best time. PBs also today for Elsie, James, Ciarán, Clodagh and Oisín, kudos to you all!

As you all know, at Shelbourne juniors we are never bothered by speed or racing, our main currency is smiling! That said, we were delighted to see Shelbourne stalwart, Séadna, cross the line as first finisher today. Séadna turns up week in week out, regardless of the weather or the occasion, and gets his run done quietly and without any fuss. Finishing in pole position today, for the second time from his 84 runs, was a worthy accolade for fantastic a young man and athlete. Maith thú Séadna, keep her lit for the winter as you work towards that magical century!

Thanks to all of our volunteers today for a cracking event, we are very grateful for your time every Sunday morning.

Beir bua,

Ian.

It was another beautiful, sunny morning at Shelbourne Park for our 276th event. 38 budding athletes took to the glistening tarmac, with an array of Limerick jerseys on display in support of The Treaty Men on All Ireland Sunday.

A warm welcome from all of us at Shelbourne junior parkrun to Reuben who enjoyed our event for the first time today. Míle fáilte romhat a Reuben 👋🏼

On the milestone front, today marks the start of the new junior parkrun milestone system whereby we will celebrate 10-25-50-75-100 with you all from now on. We will also be celebrating volunteer milestones so if any of you parents have someone who is just not feeling it some Sunday morning, remind them they can volunteer with us if they like. There’s a role for everyone! With that, well done to Tom and Eddie on your 10th event and to Alexandra, Séamus, Harriet and Aaron on your quarter centuries! Pop up to us next week for a photo and one of our new wristbands 😁

On the run front, Macdara celebrated his 10th junior parkrun by crossing the line as our first finisher, whilst his younger brother, Lua, also had an impressive podium finish. Splitting these siblings today was Aaron, who celebrated his 25th junior parkrun with a cracking PB. Kudos also to Finn, Ruairí, Harriet and Ruby on their respective personal best times today. Maith sibh ar fad 👏🏼

Heartfelt thanks, as always, to our amazing volunteers who keep our event going week in week out 🙏🏼

See you all for more next week.

Six Seven 🫴🏼 🫴🏼

Shelbourne juniors is an event for all children of all abilities. Our juniors walk, run or skip their 2.5 laps of the park with broad smiles every Sunday morning. The primary focus for us is always inclusive enjoyment for all.

Whilst we never talk about winning at Shelbourne junior parkrun, a certain group of thoroughbreds have unwittingly focussed our attention on the front end of the pack in recent weeks as the very rare seven minute barrier has been threatened for the first time in a while.

On 14th June, Killaloe based club DERG AC provided no less than the first five finishers! Well done Macdara, Peter, Billy, Iarla and Seán. Since then, Charlie, donning Bilboa A.C.’s Limerick green, has entered the scene and turned up the heat, where himself and Peter have had a couple of great battles, coming agonisingly close to breaking seven minutes.

Check out the results of our last three events and see these impressive times for yourself! Do you think we will see a result beginning with 6 in the near future? Come along this morning and see for yourself. Six seven..
