Sunday 20th September

Munster Junior Cup round 1
Killorglin senior A - 2
Tralee Dynamos A - 3

A Titanic battle back at our home pitch this afternoon, saw Killorglin welcome Tralee Dynamos. Killorglin started brightly and went 1-0 up when a brilliant free kick from Paddy Collins was nodded to the back of the net by Shane Brosnan. Five minutes later unfortunately dynamos equalised to make it 1-1. Shortly after dynamos were down to 10 men after a tackle on Adam Owens forced the ref to give a straight red card. Unfortunately Killorglin were caught on the break shortly before halftime and the halftime score was 2 - 1 to Dynamos.
The second half saw a much improved performance by Killorglin who began to get on top and deservedly equalised when the flowing move started off by Jason O’Connor was finished to the back of the net by Tom Whittleton to make it 2-2. Unfortunately, as so often can happen, with Killorglin being well on top we conceded as dynamos scored to make a 3-2 with about 15 minutes to go. Killorglin pressed for an equaliser but we were unlucky not to score which left the final score 3-2 to Tralee dynamos.
A good performance by our team for our first match of the season and a good foundation for which to build upon for the year ahead.

Killorglin B AFC U14 – Match Report

Castlemaine 3–0 Killorglin B AFC

Killorglin B AFC U14s travelled away to Castlemaine for a tough encounter and, despite the 3–0 scoreline, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance.

Killorglin started the game brightly and dominated much of the first half, playing with the wind. The lads created a number of chances but unfortunately couldn't find the finish needed to turn their pressure into goals.

The back four were excellent throughout the opening period, defending strongly and keeping Castlemaine at bay. Donnagh McShane also put in a very solid shift in midfield, showing great determination and composure. Roy and Joshua Sweeney worked hard at the back and played their part in keeping Castlemaine from creating clear opportunities.

With a big squad available, every player played their role and contributed to the team's effort. It was a real team performance, with everyone working hard for each other.

Castlemaine came more into the game in the second half and eventually broke the deadlock. Killorglin responded well and pushed hard for an equaliser. Oisin Griffin showed great determination and effort to get on the end of a chance, only for the ball to be cleared off the line — a moment that summed up the lads' desire to get back into the game.

As Castlemaine increased the pressure, Killorglin began to lose a little composure and tired as the game went on. Castlemaine took advantage, adding two further goals to make it 3–0.

It was a tough day at the office for the lads, but the scoreline doesn't tell the full story of the effort and commitment shown by the team. There were plenty of positives to build on, particularly the first-half performance and the determination shown after conceding.

We regroup, learn from it and go again. đź’Ş

Well done to all the lads for their effort and commitment.

Girls U15s

Killorglin AFC 1–4 Castleisland
HT: 1–3 | FT: 1–4

Our U15 Premier girls began their league campaign in The Den today. With three of last season’s starters now with Kerry FC, it was always going to take time to adjust.

Castleisland started strongly and went 2–0 up inside 10 minutes, but a few positional changes helped us settle. Siomha Clifford pulled one back with a well-taken goal before Castleisland restored their two-goal lead.

Debutant goalkeeper Sarah produced some excellent saves, while the U14s recruited Imogen Carroll Kelly also made her debut after the break. Our defence worked tirelessly in a much-improved second half, with Castleisland adding just one late goal.

A positive first outing from a much-changed squad, with plenty to build on ahead of the National Cup.

GOTM: Sarah Boyle 🧤👏

Feint U12B -4
Killorglin U12B -3

Igor Czajkowski ⚽️⚽️
Harvey Higgins ⚽️

Killorglin U12Bs travelled to Fenit to take part in a great contest where they came out unlucky by one in an end to end encounter.
Fenit settled well on their home pitch, chipped in an early goal and followed that up with another attack which required an excellent save from Breandán Ó Grifín.
Eventually Killorglin settled and Harvey Higgins showed coolnesss personified by slotting home an excellent goal in a crowded area.
Killorglin got reward for sustained period of pressure when Igor Czajkowski put away a corner taken by Aran Kissane.
Harvey Higgins hit another screamer just over the bar before half time.
From the start of the second half Fenit came out determined to turn things around and over the next twenty minutes took a 4-2 lead. BreandĂ n kept the game alive with two more saves as Killorglin pushed forward .
Then came Killorglin’s 3rd goal as Igor hit an absolute screamer from the half way line from a Fenit clearance. An unbelievable shot which will live long in the memory and is an early contender for our goal of the season. Killorglin pushed to the very end but just could not get the equaliser despite shots from Tom McKenna and a free kick just wide from Finn Tyther O’Sullivan.
Kudos to defenders James Phelan, Kevin Lynch, Samuel Doyle and Oran O’Shea who defended well at different times while we pushed forward.
Again Breandàn was a rock in the goals , Harvey’s passes around the middle stood out but the whole squad competed well and we probably deserved at least a draw.
MOTM : No contest this week Igor Czajkowski had a great game in defence while adding 2 goals including his bullet from the half way line
Thanks to Fenit Samphires for hosting us and to the ref for allowing such a flowing game

U18 Kerry Youth League

Mastergeeha 3-3 Killorglin AFC.

Another great performance from the Killorglin Youth Team, to get a hard earned point away from home. Killorglin never behind in the game, opened the scoring from a Michael Culnane shot from the edge of the box, Killorglin doubled the lead after a strong run and cross from Sean Doherty and there was Luke McGillycuddy to drive home the second. There were further chances for both sides until Mastergeeha scored a well worked goal to cut the deficit by one. Killorglin started the second half strongly and scored a third goal after Henry Whittleton converted an Ordran Foley cross his second assist of the game. With the wind Mastergeeha scored 2 goals with long balls into the box. Killorglin held out for the last 15 minutes with some strong defending and always looked dangerous on the counter attack. Again it was a game where every player in the squad played their part with full commitment.
Special mention for Charlie Foley who went in goal at short notice. The Youths remain undefeated in the season

U12 National Cup

Broadford United AFC 0
Killorglin AFC 5

HT 0-2
FT 0-5

Zach Griffin ⚽⚽
Adam Ahern âš˝
Omphile Schreurs ⚽⚽

As a team, they should be extremely proud of this performance.

The game was only two minutes old when Zach Griffin latched onto a through ball by Adam Ahern and slotted past the Broadford keeper. Then two minutes later, Omphile Schreurs was the provider as he played in Zach once more and again he made no mistake with the finish. After that the game settled down and both teams enjoyed periods of dominance. Another chance came Zach's way later in the half but his effort hit the side netting. Broadford kept working their way into the game and eventually had an effort go just wide after 20 minutes.

For the closing ten minutes of the half, Killorglin had to soak up a lot of pressure but the defence and midfield did its job. Jamie Costello worked tirelessly all day aided by Paidi Ryan, Muiris O'Muircheartaigh and Abel Mitten

Five minutes into the second half, Jamie delivered a great corner and Muiris's volley sailed just wide. Five minutes later, Zach received the ball in midfield and played in Adam Ahern who coolly slotted the shot under the advancing keeper to make it 3-0.

At 3-0, Killorglin were comfortable but 10 minutes from time, Broadford got in on goal and were just about to unleash a shot when the ever dependable Sean O'Shea made a fantastic interception. Entering the closing minutes, Broadford were pushing for a goal but Killorglin came down the other end and Omphile won a free kick at the edge of the box. The resulting free kick was taken by Omphile and his shot beat the keeper creeping just inside the post. With only two minutes remaining, Zach again claimed the ball in midfield and sent a ball over the top for Omphile to run on to and he made it 5-0.

Special mention to Kyle Jones in goals whose distribution all game was brilliant. The backline of Sean O'Shea, Darragh Campbell and Jack Barton made sure Broadford had very few clear cut chances.

MOTM: Jamie Costello was excellent in midfield all game. He didn't give the opposition players a second's peace and gave the team a great platform on which to build.

National Cup
Killorglin AFC 4
Regional Utd 1
HT 1-0
FT 4-1
On an overcast and windy afternoon. Our u16 premier team hosted Regional United A in the final National Cup. Both sides struggled to get the ball down. We went 1-0 up through Rian Foley after his venomous shot flew into the net. 1-0 is how it would stay H/T. Into the second half and we upped the tempo as Darragh and Cian McGillycuddy took control of the middle of the field. This would lead to our second goal as a great header from Cian McGillycuddy found Darragh Burke. Darragh passed to Rian who in turn flicked it around the corner to James Rooney as his shot around into the bottom corner for 2-0. Regional would have there purple patch. That saw them grab a goal back after a free kick that was put on top of Noah who seemed to have been fouled as the ball rolled into the back of the net 2-1. We got a goal back as Rian Foley was taken down inside the box. Rian dusted himself down and slotted the penalty away for 3-1. We would make our first change as Jack Clifford replaced Darragh Burke. We made it 4-1 As Adam Fleming latched onto a great over the top ball from Cian McGillycuddy and slotted it home for 4-1. We would then empty our bench and see it out for a great victory. Best on the day was Noah Browne,Donnacha Gleason,Cathal Flynn,Cian O’Sullivan,Alex Riordan,Adam Fleming,Darragh Burke,James Rooney,Jack Clifford,Luke Clifford,Rian Foley,Fionn Beaven,Freddie Greenwood,Mark doona,pj Griffin,Darragh Doherty.
