John's Chairobics
John's Chairobics brings chair based exercise classes for older adults to the South East. What is chairobics? Who can benefit from chairobics? Anyone!
With 10 years of chairobics experience and a life long passion for health, John offers a friendly and relaxed class that anyone can enjoy and benifit from. Chairobics is a compilation of low impact routines, customised to increase your balance, strength and flexibility, most of which are performed sitting down. With specially designed routines, chairobics is tailored for seniors, arthritics or semi-mobile adults.
Continue thinking of ya all. Please mind yourselves. We will get through this. Reach out if you need help 🤲
Thinking about all of my ladies and lads. Stay safe.

Physical benefits of fitness for older adults
• Exercise helps older adults maintain or lose weight.
•
• Exercise reduces the impact of illness and chronic disease
•
• Exercise enhances mobility, flexibility, and balance.
Mental health benefits of exercise / fitness as we age
• Exercise improves your sleep.
•
• Exercise boosts mood and self-confidence.
•
• Exercise is good for the brain
But is it too late to improve your fitness and health once you are past the first flushes of youth? "Absolutely not".
Studies show improvements in balance, strength, gait, muscular power, blood pressure, endurance and bone density as a result of regular physical activity in older age.
The Target
Your goal should simply be to start moving more!!
That might mean around the home, or in the garden - it certainly doesn't have to be in a gym!
But whatever you choose - the activity you do needs to be consistent, in order to reap the benefits.
The challenge is sustaining physical activity in the long-term.
Exercise type? Aerobic activity - brisk walking, cycling or swimming - is the gold standard, as far as government guidelines are concerned.
But what has been neglected in Ireland is the importance of strength, flexibility and balance training. We're a bit behind the times here.
The American College of Sports Medicine and World Health Organisation both recommend twice-weekly training in these important attributes for older people, to assist with fall prevention and for the “maintenance of independence."
