So grateful to for their generous donation, which their transition year students recently made to our service. This was on the back of their Christmas Jolly Jumper day and a school cake sale, which the students organised.
Well done to all involved 👏

Kilkenny R**e Crisis Centre KASA is supporting the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, which runs from Nov 25th to Dec 10th. This is a global campaign that advocates for the elimination of violence against girls and women. This kind of violence has no place in our society, and we stand united with this global movement.

Sexual violence isn't always a physical act. Coercive control is a clear example of this. It's complicated in its nature as it can be very subtle.
In general, coercive control is a pattern of behaviour used by an abuser to exert power and control over another person, usually in an intimate or domestic relationship.
Unlike physical violence, coercive control can be much more subtle, involving psychological, sexual, emotional, and financial tactics and usually involves gaslighting, all of which are designed to isolate, manipulate, and then dominate the other person.
It's a form of abuse that can severely impact the other person's autonomy, self-esteem, and freedom. It can also leave them questioning their own sanity.
Follow the link below to read Lynn's story of this kind of abuse.

Our service manager Bríd Meighan, spoke to Brian Redmond on the KCLR Daily yesterday about the act of sexual assault and r**e perpetrated on people when asleep. There has been much talk in the media the last couple of weeks with a high-profile French case currently ongoing on this issue, and other victims coming forward sharing their experiences too, Niamh Ní Dhomhnaill being one of them.
The Irish law states "a person consents to a sexual act if he or she freely and voluntarily agrees to engage in that act".
If someone is asleep, there can be no misunderstanding, there can be no consent as the person has no capacity to freely or voluntarily agree to engage in that act.
