Good coach development should change more than your session plan.

Across Season 2 of the Evolve Coaching Room, we’ve explored six connected ideas:

1️⃣ Start with the player, not the drill
2️⃣ Ask better questions
3️⃣ Use constraints to shape behaviour
4️⃣ Coach decisions, not only technique
5️⃣ Build progressions with purpose
6️⃣ Create better learning environments

The aim wasn’t to give coaches six more activities to collect.

It was to help them examine how they plan, observe, intervene and create learning for their players.

As Season 2 finishes, we’re asking coaches one simple question:

What’s the biggest idea you’ll take into your coaching?

Inside the Evolve Coaching Room, we’re helping coaches examine not only what they deliver, but why it works.

The free Coaching Room is open to coaches at every stage of their journey.

We’re back in Rathgormack. ⚽👏

A brilliant group joined us this evening as our new 8-week Evolve Academy block got underway.

It was great to welcome familiar faces back and introduce several new players to the environment.

Across the block, our sessions will help players develop:

⚽ Confidence with the ball
⚽ Technical ability
⚽ Decision-making
⚽ Game understanding
⚽ Competition and enjoyment

Most importantly, we want every player to feel challenged, supported and excited to return each week.

Tonight was the beginning not the deadline. Registration remains open, and new players aged 6–12 can experience their first session for free.

The Girls Development Centre is underway. 💗⚽

Tonight we welcomed the players to the first session of our new block at The Watershed.

The aim is to provide girls at different stages of their football journey with an environment where they can:
⚽ Build confidence
⚽ Spend plenty of time with the ball
⚽ Learn through games and challenges
⚽ Make decisions
⚽ Develop at an appropriate level
⚽ Enjoy being part of the group

Players are grouped by age and development stage across our 6–8, 9–11 and 12–13 groups.

Tonight was the beginning not the deadline. New players are still welcome, and a free first session is available for anyone who would like to experience the environment.

How do you know when players are ready for the next progression?

Look for:
✅ Success becoming consistent
✅ Players recognising the picture earlier
✅ Decisions becoming more independent
✅ Tempo increasing naturally
✅ Fewer coaching interventions being required

But don’t mistake one successful action for understanding.

Sometimes players need more time with the same problem.

Sometimes the learning is only beginning to emerge.

And sometimes moving on simply because the plan says so can interrupt the learning.

A four-stage progression is not a checklist.

The players should determine how far through it you travel.

So before introducing the next challenge, ask:
Are the players ready for the next problem or am I simply ready for the next part of my plan?

Next Tuesday, the Evolve Girls Development Centre returns to The Watershed in partnership with CK United FC.

The programme provides girls aged 6–13 with a positive weekly environment where they can:

⚽ Build confidence with the ball
⚽ Develop their skills
⚽ Make decisions
⚽ Play games
⚽ Take on new challenges
⚽ Make friends
⚽ Enjoy their football

Players will be grouped by age and development stage:

💗 Ages 6–8
💗 Ages 9–11
💗 Ages 12–13

The new 6–8 group also provides a clear starting point for younger girls or those beginning their football journey.

New players are very welcome, and a free first session is available across the programme.
