SEASON OPENER | TOMMY HEFFERNAN CHARITY SHIELD

We’re back!

Our Senior Team kick off the new season this Saturday with a huge game against Rathnew AFC in the Tommy Heffernan Charity Shield.

A brilliant way to get the new campaign underway as two great sides go head-to-head for the first silverware of the season.

The day will also give us an opportunity to remember Patrick “Boxer” Doyle, a great Man who gave so much to both clubs over the years.

We’d love to see a big Antos crowd make the trip to Wicklow Town and get behind the lads as they get the new season underway!

The final whistle on more than just a season.

Our U16s played their final game of the season this weekend — and, as they now move beyond schoolboy football, their final game together in the WDSL and for Antos.

For many of these lads, St Anthony’s has been a big part of growing up. Alongside them for so much of that journey have been their coaches, Eoin Finnerty and Sean Dowd.

Games come and go. Results are soon forgotten. But the coaches who give their time, set standards, offer encouragement and become role models can stay with young players forever.

Eoin and Sean have given years to this team and to our club. Week after week, season after season — training sessions, matches, good days, difficult days and countless hours behind the scenes.

Thank you, Eoin and Sean.

Antos Abú — Antos Forever

St Anthony’s were back in action today in the first round of the LFA Junior Cup, travelling up the M50 for an early Sunday morning kick-off against Newtown Rangers.

It was a day tinged with sadness following the passing of club stalwart Patrick “Boxer” Doyle. A minute’s silence was impeccably observed by both clubs before kick-off.

The game began scrappily, with Antos dominating possession and creating the better chances. Against the run of play, Newtown took the lead following a defensive mix-up. On 30 minutes, Jamie “Rico” Ruda’s pressing forced an error, and the ball fell to Ronan hanaphy, who unleashed a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Five minutes later, Hanaphy struck again, heading home Keelan O’Connell’s excellent cross. However, slack defending gifted Newtown an equaliser just before half-time, leaving the sides level at 2-2.

Antos came out strongly in the second half and took control of proceedings, moving the ball well and creating numerous chances. On 65 minutes, Jamie Murray’s pressure on the goalkeeper created the opportunity for Hanaphy to complete his hat-trick.

Newtown equalised again with a minute remaining from a needless free-kick. Extra time followed, with Hanaphy restoring the lead with his fourth goal, only for another defensive mix-up to see Newtown level once more. Hanaphy thought he had won it late on, but the goal was ruled offside.

Penalties followed, with Danny Kavanagh making two crucial saves as Antos prevailed 4-3 to progress.

NEXT UP

The lads now turn their attention to the Wicklow League season opener, where they face close rivals Rathnew in the Charity Shield — the Tommy Heffernan Shield — next Saturday.

Remembering Patrick “Boxer” Doyle ❤️

It is with great sadness that everyone at St Anthony’s FC Kilcoole learned of the passing of Patrick “Boxer” Doyle, a man who will always hold a very special place in the history of our club.
Boxer was a proud member of our 1983 Cup-winning team, creating memories and becoming part of a piece of St Anthony’s history that will never be forgotten.

His contribution to the club, however, went far beyond his playing days. Boxer gave so much of his time, energy and support to St Anthony’s over the years, always willing to lend a hand and do his bit for the club. People like Boxer helped build the foundations of the St Anthony’s we are so proud of today.

Perhaps the greatest reflection of Boxer’s connection to St Anthony’s is that his legacy continues through the generations of his family who remain such an important part of the club today.

His son Shane has been instrumental in the success of St Anthony’s over the years and has proudly carried on the Doyle connection on the pitch. In the 2023/24 season, Shane was both Top Goalscorer and Player of the Year as the lads went on to win the league — a fantastic achievement and a very proud continuation of his father’s legacy at the club.

His son Philip is also giving his time back to St Anthony’s as one of our Academy coaches, helping to develop the next generation of Antos. And that next generation includes Boxer’s grandchildren, with Blake proudly wearing the St Anthony’s jersey in our Academy and Lexie representing the club with our U12 Girls.
From Boxer and that famous 1983 Cup-winning team, to his sons and now his grandchildren, the Doyle family’s connection with St Anthony’s continues. There can be few more fitting legacies for a man who gave so much of himself to this club.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Boxer’s beloved wife and best friend Kathleen; his children Shirley, Philip, Shane,Emma and Laura; his grandchildren Lexie, Conor, Blake and Jack; his siblings Noel, Trudy and Robert; and all of his extended family and many friends.

We also remember his late parents Paddy and Rosaleen, and his late sisters Sharon and Jenny.

Thank you, Boxer, for the memories, the years of service and everything you gave to St Anthony’s. Your legacy lives on through your family, through the generations that follow, and through the club you helped shape.

Rest in Peace, Boxer ❤️

Super proud of our two new u10 girls teams who had their 7 aside league debuts against Wicklow Rovers and Carnew FC

Two great games of football with high scoring games keeping everyone entertained !

Thank you to all the players parents and opposition teams.

Also credit to the Wicklow District Schoolboys/Girls League . - WDSL for commencing the first week of league games at this U10s age group, great variety and quality of games in the season ahead .

This coupled with our u12s and U14s girls teams makes this a very exciting future for girls soccer here in St. Anthony's Kilcoole FC .

NEW WDFL SECOND TEAM – PLAYERS WANTED FOR 2026/27

Following the success of our WDFL Premier Division Champions and the continued growth of the club, we’ve seen a real increase in demand for senior football at St Anthony’s.

With the new WDFL season starting at the end of September, we are now moving quickly to establish a competitive Second Men’s Team for 2026/27.

We want to hear from:

⚽ Former St Anthony’s players who fancy getting the boots back on
⚽ Players who aren't currently playing and want to return to competitive football
⚽ Players from clubs across Wicklow and Dublin looking for a new challenge
⚽ Players with ambitions to progress towards our Premier Division First Team
⚽ Anyone who wants to join a growing club and play competitive WDFL football

The new Second Team will be a team in its own right, with:

✅ Its own management team
✅ Dedicated training slots
✅ Its own WDFL fixtures and match schedule
✅ A competitive senior squad
✅ A pathway into our First Team

Players performing well with the Second Team will have the opportunity to step up to First Team football when opportunities arise.

Our new Youths programme will also connect directly into the senior setup, creating a clear club pathway:
