“When we get a young horse, the first thing is we want the horse to go forward from the leg, then to accept the hand and eventually work in a rounded outline into the rein. Use an open rein, we don’t just pull on the inside rein, because the shoulder drops out. Quietly correct resistances. We don’t want the horse to feel trapped by the hands.”

Dear Members,
As many of you are aware, Horse Sport Ireland has announced the introduction of a €60 High Performance Levy on all international entries, effective from 3 December 2025. This decision was made without any consultation with Dressage Ireland or with the riders who will be directly impacted.
The Board of Dressage Ireland has today issued a formal letter and press release to Horse Sport Ireland expressing our strong opposition to this levy and calling for its immediate suspension.
We are now asking all , parents, owners, coaches and supporters to help us escalate this issue.

All members have today been emailed with further information and below is a copy of the letter that has been sent to the Board of Horse Sport Ireland.
