Mizen to Malin 24 hour challenge

Our page officially closed off in the last few weeks and I just wanted to update one final post to to thank everyone who generously donated. Our final figure paid over was €52,615 which was an amazing achievement. If these funds help to save just one life, this will have been a worthwhile project. On behalf of James, Hilda and myself, sincerel thanks to everyone for your support through the weeks and months leading up to the event. To everyone that so kindly supported myself, James and Hilda, words can’t describe our gratitude! Most people are aware we completed the Mizen to Malin route in 23hrs 7min on Sunday. This money raised will make a significant difference to the charity over the coming months. We will update this page once more before it closes off in a few days time. So we’re almost at the start line, 12pm Saturday we set off and the three of us remain truly humbled by the incredible support and generosity shown by so many people. We started out with an ambition to raise 10k for this wonderful charity and now the numbers speak for themselves.
We hope that whatever suffering we go through over 24hrs will really help those for whom the suffering doesn’t have such a defined timeframe!

Hi all, meet Hilda. Hilda is one of four (James Forbes, Ger Cotter) cycling the M2M route on Saturday and has bravely spoken out in a short video on her reasons to take on this significant challenge.
With our fundraising having just reached €36,000 between us (with initial ambitions of €10k) I think stories like these make it clear why support for charities like Cycleagainstsuicide.com is so strong. With a week to go, I want to use the opportunity to call out a few people and businesses that have gone above and beyond to support us! John Kearns, what can I say, you’ve kept the legs turning particularly over the last few weeks when it’s been so important to avoid injury. Thank you, it’s hugely appreciated.

On Sat 19th we’ll ride through the night for our 24hr event so a few practice spins required in advance. Cycling through villages at 1am is certainly strange but somehow not quite as strange as eating Bananas and drinking energy drinks at that hour!
Quick update on fundraising as of today we are at €21,800, incredible 🙏🙏

A few people have joked with us that they wouldn’t want to drive Mizen to Malin! 😂 Well imagine driving it at 25kph over 24 hours! We are so grateful to the team of people that have come on board and are taking on roles that are vital to completing this challenge. Martin Stapleton of CDS architectural metalwork and Declan Downey of Downey Logistics will take the role of routing car providing us with navigation through the entire event. As of this morning we have just reached €20,400 in funds raised, incredible!

With just over three weeks to go, we continue to be blown away by the response we have received and thanks to the generosity of so many, we have just gone over €17,500 for Cycle Against Su***de.

A few have asked me if this is a relay event and just to be clear, this is NOT a relay, as all four cyclists will complete the entire 566k route non stop from Mizen to Malin. In the unlikely (we hope) event of a North/Northwest wind, we may decide within a few days of the start to change direction and start at Malin, cycling to Mizen but this will have no impact on the distance travelled.
