This Saturday the Tailteann Games come to life at Kells Priory. 🇮🇪✨

From stone lifting to storytelling, from rounders to tug of war, the Games are a celebration of Irish tradition, culture and community. It is about play, heritage and the spirit of coming together.

RTÉ Brainstorm has published a brilliant article by Dr Conor Heffernan that explores what this revival means for Ireland today — identity, mythology and belonging. Well worth a read:

A chariot was brought to Fergus, and Fergus laid hold with a truly mighty grip on the fork, and he made splinters and scraps of the chariot.." — Táin Bó Cúailnge

In Irish epics, the hand is the true measure of strength. Warriors halted chariots by their grasp, cast great stones from their palms, and bound enemies with a grip that could not be broken. The strong hand — the lámh láidir — was a symbol of courage, tenacity, and control.

This demonstration revives that heroic test. Athletes will show the endurance of the hand and the power of the grip, echoing the ancient belief that strength begins in the palm.
