Kanturk AFC U11 v Strand United U11 12.09.2026 Match Report
An early morning match in some pretty miserable conditions for our U11 boys today. The first home match of the season against Strand United.
Kanturk got off to a good start with some excellent work in midfield being finished off by James OShea for the first goal of the game after 5 minutes. Strand levelled shortly after, capitalising on a loose ball, before the lads hit back with 2 in succession both finished off by todays captain Donnacha MacCárthaigh.
The rain made it difficult for both sides towards the end of the first half but Strand United dealt with the conditions better and pulled one back just before the whistle. 3 - 2 at halftime.
The second half kicked off and Strand came out on a mission hitting 3 without reply. 3 - 5 and our boys were up against it.
What followed next showed everyone that was watching exactly what this team is made of. As the rain finally started to ease off the lads kicked into overdrive. Strikes from Danny Daly and Garret OKeeffe brought us back level before the goal of the game, a top bins free kick from James OShea put us back in front. 6 -5.
The lads had found their rhythm and Danny Daly got his second before James completed his hat-trick. A period of pressure did provide a reward with Strand finishing off a nice move.
In the closing moments of the game Donnacha MacCárthaigh completed his own hat-trick to finish the game off. 9 - 6 the final score.
In a game that had just about everything that's good about schoolboy soccer our lads worked together, played some fantastic football and showed a never say die attitude that earned them a hard fought victory.
A big thanks to Brian and his lads from Strand United. A huge thanks for the supporters and parents for braving the rain.
But most of all, well done lads, you should be very proud of that performance. I couldn't pick a player of the match today as you were all outstanding.
