Moyne Villa A community club in the heart of Headford. Academy Soccer for boys and girls aged 3-12, Underage soccer for Boys and Girls Aged 13-18.

Adult Soccer & U21's, Over 35's & Over 42's. Named after Moyne Castle & formed in 1977. The objectives of the club shall be to:

To promote and develop the game of Association Football among its members. To foster a spirit of friendship and good social inter action among its members. To support the overall development of sporting activities in the greater Headford catchment area.

Moyne Villa U15 girls travelled to Loughrea on a beautiful sunny day for a special occasion: the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Moyne Villa made a flying start, going 4–0 up after just 19 minutes, but the scoreline didn’t tell the full story. Loughrea showed great determination and never allowed the visitors to become too comfortable, continually testing our defence and GK Sarah R., who produced a handful of brilliant interventions to keep the home side to two goals.

Moyne Villa took the lead after just one minute. Imogen won the ball in midfield and released Ava through the middle, with Ava keeping her composure to finish coolly past the keeper.

Three minutes later, Sarah B. put Ava through. The keeper saved her shot, but Emma W. was in the right place to tuck away the rebound for 2–0.

On 15 minutes, Emma W. released Ava again, and Ava made no mistake, finishing past the keeper for her second.

The fourth came on 19 minutes. Sarah B. did excellent work down the right before releasing Emma W., who split the defence with a perfectly timed pass to Elena. Just on the pitch, Elena made an immediate impact, finishing first time with her first touch.

Loughrea responded strongly. A free kick from outside their box, caught Mv defense by surprise and they found the net in the 36th minute, and five minutes after the beginning of the second half, they scored again, now from a corner to make it 4–2. Sarah R. was particularly important during this period, making several excellent saves to prevent Loughrea from getting the third.

Eventually Moyne Villa settled and responded with two more goals. On 58 minutes, Imogen released Emma, who held off her defender before blasting the ball into the corner from outside the box.

Seven minutes later, Alexa split the defence with a superb pass to Emma, who finished with a powerful shot to complete the scoring at 6–2.

An entertaining and competitive first meeting between the sides. Moyne Villa can be pleased with the attacking football and response to Loughrea’s comeback, while full credit goes to Loughrea for their determination and never-say-die attitude throughout.

Our Reserve team showed a great attitude in their first game of the season but hosts Tuam Celtic had a keeper in fine form and too much firepower at the other end as they ran out 4-0 winners.

Seasoned campaigners Halloran, Tuohy & Duckworth were joined by the youthful Finnegan, Walsh & Gavin as all 13 players got valuable minutes into the legs in a good work out. Best for Villa were Eoghan Halloran, Rob Keady & Cian Gavin, while out best player on the day was Mathieu Walsh.

3–1 down with 20 minutes to go, the girls showed incredible determination! 💪 Kaia pulled one back before Róisín’s brilliant chip secured a well-earned draw. 🔥

"A tight match that was impacted by the windy evening. Oranmore had the wind in the first half and used it well with attack after attack. Great defending by Kayleigh, Emily, Isabelle and Amy stopped multiple attacks and ball that got by them Sophie mopped up in Goals. Alisha, Anna and Leonia worked tirelessly throughout the first half. 0-0 at halftime was a victory for the brilliant defensive effort by the team.
The second half start well as Villa got more ball. Sheana, Jean, Grace, Eva and Cara began to attack. After 5 minutes some lovely play from Eva and Grace set Cara through one on One and Cara finished to put us in the lead. The game flowed up and down the field with defense being turned into attack from Lauren at right back to Sheana in midfield up to Cara again, but this time offside was called. With 2 minutes to go Oranmore got through the defence and won a penalty which they converted. 1-1 was the end result. Villa were looking to continue their good start to the season against a newly promoted Knocknacarra side, but the visitors certainly weren't going to make it easy. Villa spurned a number of one on one opportunities early on and it looked like it wasn't going to be their day when they lost Max to injury and shortly after conceded a penalty on 25 mins which was duly dispatched. One nil down at Halftime and turning to play into a strong breeze. Villa continued to battle and 13 minutes into the second half Cillian ran onto a long free kick from Ronan M, letting the ball drop over his shoulder before firing into the bottom right corner of the net. Game on. With just ten mins left to play Cillian again latched onto a long ball this time cooly finishing to the bottom left. Villa held on and squeezed out a win. They were clearly the better side but were made to work for it by a dogged Knocknacarra side.

Our Junior Division 2 team lost out to a good Ballinasloe side on Saturday afternoon in Headford. After an even opening half an hour that had chances at both ends, it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 37 minutes. We equalised on 51 minutes, a fine Cathal Donagher free kick from 25 yards. that flew into the top corner. Shortly after, Ballinasloe were awarded a penalty but Oisin Hernon pulled of a fine save. However it was the visitors finished stronger and two goals in the last 15 minutes gave them the three points.

Plenty of positives to take from the performance with Oisin pulling off some fine saves while Daire Hanrahan & Jason O' Malley tool the game to the opposition.
