Full Match report
Glengarriff booked their place in the Beara Junior B Championship final yesterday evening with a convincing victory over Urhan in Adrigole.
It was a dominant display from start to finish, with Glengarriff setting the tone early and maintaining their control throughout the whole game.
Glengarriff came flying out of the blocks, with Callum McElhinney opening the scoring before adding another point inside the first five minutes. The pressure continued to build, and after just seven minutes, Tadhg McCarthy found the back of the net to give the Glen men a healthy early lead.
By the ten-minute mark, Glengarriff had moved into a 1-3 to 0-2 advantage and were firmly in control of proceedings.
They continued to move the ball well and put the Urhan defence under sustained pressure. That pressure was rewarded with a penalty, which Callum McElhinney confidently converted from the spot, putting the Glengarriff men into a 2-4 to 0-2 lead.
Further points from Gearóid O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Sullivan Connell and Brian O’Sullivan Connell added to the scoreboard as Glengarriff continued to dictate the pace of the game. At half-time, they held a commanding 2-7 to 0-2 lead.
There was no let-up after the restart. Glengarriff’s attacking play continued to cause problems, with Callum McElhinney adding two more excellent two-point scores before another two well-executed scores from Darragh O’Sullivan Connell and Gearóid O’Sullivan stretched Glengarriff’s advantage.
The pressure, intensity and fitness of the Glengarriff side were beginning to tell, and on 41 minutes they struck for their third goal. Jack Harrington finished to the net, providing another reward for Glengarriff’s sustained attacking pressure.
Urhan refused to give up and rallied during the final ten minutes, finding a goal and three points to reduce the deficit. However, Glengarriff remained defiant in defending their lead to see out an impressive victory for the lads, with a final score of 3-16 to 1-5.
The final whistle confirmed Glengarriff’s place in the Beara Junior B Championship final, where they will face Adrigole as they bid to defend their title and make it back-to-back championship wins.
