SEÁNS PROFILE IS HERE AGH HAVE A LOOK HAVE A READ HAVE A BOP WOOHOO !!!

Hi all, my name is Seán! I’ve been a member of the club since 2013 servicing as ATO, TO, EO, DO and BO on the committee as well as a Mon** instructor. The reason you may be thinking “who the heck is this guy?” is because for 468 days I’ve been living and working at Rothera research station in Antarctica!
My role there was the Ocean Scientist, responsible for the upkeep of the long term monitoring projects on the Antarctic environment and ecosystem. This included weekly water quality monitoring using CTDs and laboratory assays, wildlife monitoring programs including breeding populations of pinnipeds and seabirds, diving for species collections, impact of iceberg scouring on benthic communities, blue carbon sequestration projects and benthic feeding monitoring. Boating and diving in Antarctica is an amazing experience as you navigate your way through icebergs, glacial fronts, humpback whales, orca and curious leopard seals!

Soooo we all want to be Seán when we grow up right ?!? We are really lucky to have people from our club doing such amazing things ! Thank you Seán 🫶🏻

Hey, it’s Chloe! 🩷 I joined the club in 2017 & have been ATO, TO, Captain, SO & PRO during my time, and I’m a PADI & SSI instructor. I’m also living & working at Rothera Research Station in Antarctica as a Station General Assistant.
My job is great; as the name suggests, it involves a bit of doing everything with everyone! Our team’s main tasks include ship & plane cargo handling, manning deep field bases & fuelling depots, machinery operation, aircraft fire fighting cover & waste management. I’m also a member of the boating, medical & science lab teams, so there’s never a dull moment on station.
From ice climbing, co-piloting & boating to Antarctic mountaineering & skiing, every day here is a privilege; being interrupted at work by orca, minkes, humpbacks, leopard seals, elephant seals & penguins (& much more!) against a backdrop of glaciers & giant icebergs is something I never tire of! 🇦🇶

She can literally do it all ! Guys if she wasn’t already Chloe most definitely is the coolest girl in our club, what an inspiration 🤩

Diving into World Ocean Day! 🪸🪼

Join us on June 7th at Galway Atlantaquaria as we celebrate World Ocean Day and raise funds for the RNLI 🚤🛟

Come along to support marine conservation awareness and the incredible lifesaving work carried out by the RNLI every day along our coasts.

We’ll have divers in the tank and plenty of ocean-themed fun throughout the day! 🥳

A huge congratulations to four of our club members following a fantastic day at the West Regional Exam Day in Killary Fjord over the weekend! 🌊 🤿

Congratulations to Karl, Ronan, and Sean on successfully completing their Diver 2* assessments, and to Storm on qualifying as a Cox’n Instructor 🤩🥳

We were also delighted to kick off our Advanced Diver 2* Course — an exciting start to the summer diving season! ☀️

Congratulations also to divers from Galway Sub Aqua Club, Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club, and Athlone Sub Aqua Club who also completed assessments on the day 👏

A huge thank you to all the examiners and instructors who facilitated and supported our divers to make the day possible.

ATTENTION CLUB MEMBERS !!!!

With exams over and many moving home, we would like to remind you to collect your gear if you’re not planning to rejoin the Club in September.

Starting October 2026, any equipment belonging to non-paying members will be removed from the clubhouse. This does not apply to honorary members, who must register with the University in September.

Please arrange to collect, donate, or sell your gear. We will make every effort to contact owners before any unclaimed items are handled, but if we can’t reach you, we’ll need to decide on the next steps.

If you or someone you know has gear in the clubhouse and isn’t renewing, please get in touch for arrangements.
