the olympic boxing club was founded in the under the name of the holy family1960's and was later renamed in 1988 as the olympic boxing club under the guidance of michael 'chick' gillen who was once an accomplished boxer himself at the time olympic b.c struggled to find a permanent building to train but in the year 2000 we moved to our current and permanent base on the seamus quirke road.the clubs

Olympic BC claimed 3 from 3 today at the National U15’s finals in the National Basketball Arena Tallaght.

Andrew Nugent won the 42kg title on a 5-0 Unanimous decision against a real tough opponent.

Eddie Ward followed up and won the 46kg title on a 4-1 split decision after an excellent performance against an excellent opponent.

Martin Nevin finished off the day for Olympic BC with an exceptional performance to win the 54kg title on a 5-0 Unanimous decision against a very good tough opponent.

All 3 lads are now in contention for selection for the European U15 Championships in Turkey.

Well done lads, We couldn’t be prouder of all our boxers this weekend, You all boxed your hearts outs. Brilliant lads and congrats to all our coaching staff, parents and families who without no of this would be possible!

Day 2 at the National U15 Championships for Olympic BC boxers where we had 5 lads compete in the semi finals.

Andrew Nugent won his semi final on a unanimous decision and will box in the 42kg final tomorrow.

Eddie Ward won his semi final on a 4-1 split decision and boxes in the 46kg final tomorrow.

Martin Gerard Nevin lost his 46kg semi final on a split decision but gave a good account of himself.

Martin Nevin won his semi final on a 4-1 split decision and boxes in tomorrow’s 54kg final.

Brooklyn Barrett lost out in the 63kg semi final after giving a great effort but not to be.

Well done all 5 lads today and best of luck to our 3 finalists tomorrow!

Mixed evening of results for Olympic BC boxers last night in the National U15’s Quarter Finals.

Andrew Nugent won his 42kg Quarter Final on a Unanimous decision.

Eddie Ward won his 46kg Quarter Final by RSC2.

Martin Gerard Nevin won his his 46kg Quarter Final on a split decision.

John Paul Ward was somehow adjudged to lose his 57kg Quarter Final on a split decision which we felt John Paul had won the contest but not to be.

Brooklyn Barrett came through his 63kg Quarter Final by Walkover.

Today we have 5 boxers in the Semi Finals, Best of luck lads!

Olympic BC has had the pleasure of welcoming Coach Felix Kuschel of Bremen Germany to Galway over the last week or so attending our training sessions, experiencing Galway City and County, exchanging training sessions and the discussing some differences of Irish and German Boxing techniques.

Insightful conversations and new friendships!

We look forward to our two clubs working together in the near future in inter club matches and training camps both in Germany and Ireland.

Olympic BC will have 6 boxers compete in the National U15 Championships beginning this weekend.

All 6 boxers has been drawn to box next weekend in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght in the Quarter and Semi Finals.

Fantastic rounds of sparring this week for Olympic BC underage and schoolboy boxers both at home and away especially for our National Champions Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward preparing for the National Junior Cadets.

Thanks to Athlone BC, St Michael’s Athy, Treaty BC Limerick and Mullingar Shufflers BC for the rounds.

Olympic BC had 2 boxers compete this weekend at this years Monkstown Box Cup.

John McDonagh was crowned champion today in the Schools 75kg Class with a 3-0 Unanimous decision against a good tough opponent. Fantastic season for John winning his 2nd National title and Gold in the Monkstown Cup.

Rico Sherlock had 2 brilliant exhibition bouts and getting ready for next seasons Boy 1’s and also getting experience in the big ring in the Stadium.

Well done lads and our coaches this weekend!

4 Champions out of 5 Finalists today for Olympic BC boxers at the Wild Atlantic Way Box Cup in Ballina.

Jack Maughan, Martin Nevin, John Paul Ward and Christy Maughan all winning their finals today by Unanimous decision after excellent performances.

Owen Ward lost out in his final after giving a good account of himself but wasn’t his day, All experience.

Well done to all our boxers and coaches this weekend and also thanks to Joe Lavelle and the team in Ballina BC for another well ran box cup.

Fantastic day of boxing yesterday at Olympic BC where we welcomed our friends from Esker BC Dublin to Galway.

Over 40 exhibition bouts in a highly entertaining afternoon of competitive boxing.

Massive thanks to Ed, Mick and the team in Esker for travelling, Great Day of boxing and we look forward to the return in the near future.

Busy 2 days of boxing for Olympic BC boxers at this years Wild Atlantic Way boxing cup in Ballina where we entered 7 boxers.

Last night we had Owen Ward, Martin Gerard Nevin, Martin Nevin and Christy Maughan boxing in the Quarter and Semi Finals with all 4 lads winning their bouts.

Today we had 3 boxers boxing.

John McDonagh won his Semi Finals on a Unanimous decision against a 2xNational Champion and the year older. John boxed well but unfortunately he picked up a hand injury in the last round and has to withdraw from tomorrow’s final.

Martin Nevin picked up his second win in 2 days winning on a Unanimous decision after another excellent performance and goes forward to tomorrow’s final.

Martin Gerard Nevin was very unlucky not to get his decision today in a bout that could have gone his way on another day.

Well done to all our boxers so far that boxed this weekend.

Tomorrow we have 5 boxers boxing in the final, Best of luck Owen Ward, Jack Maughan, Martin Nevin, John Paul Ward and Christy Maughan.
