In the boglands of Longford an Iron Age roadway built in 148BC was discovered in the 1980s. The purpose of the trackway made from oak is unknown, possibly for rituals as it didn’t connect any dwellings and was only usable for a few years. It sank due to the weight of the oak beams and the rising bog where it was preserved in situ for 2000 years. There is free admission to the interpretive Center where 18 meters of the trackway is on display. Walking trails and picnic areas surround the centre.
