Hard luck to Freya today. Freya had a super run in this year's Wallball Nationals having won all her games to get into the finals.
However, it wasn't to be for her in the final. She fired in some cracking serves and played some lovely handball , showing us she's back to her old strength again. In the end, her opponent Lucy McCullagh (Loughmacrory) pulled away to win the game 19-14.
Hard luck Freya but great to see you back in form ahead of the World Championships.

Freya won her Nationals quarter final game against Katie Kane (Fenagh) 21-11
Tomorrow she plays Aoibheann Muldoon McGurk (Gortnamona) in the semi-finals.
Game takes place in Corrandulla @12.00pm

Best wishes to Freya Donnellan who is competing this weekend in the 2026 Wallball Nationals.

Everyone knows hurling and Gaelic football, but there is a fourth Gaelic game that is one of the oldest and most demanding of the lot. 🤾 Irish handball, played against a wall with nothing but your bare or gloved hands.

Under the umbrella of the GAA, handball has been played in Ireland for centuries, in ball alleys tucked beside churches, schools and pubs the length of the country. The rules are beautifully simple. Two players, a hard little ball and a towering wall, and a contest of speed, stamina, angles and nerve as they take turns striking the ball so the other cannot return it. It asks for lightning reflexes and real toughness, the ball coming off the wall at ferocious pace, and Ireland has produced world champions in the sport who are heroes in their own parishes if less known beyond them.

It is a reminder of how rich the Gaelic games really are. 💚 A whole sporting tradition built from little more than a wall, a ball and the competitive Irish heart.
