Nice to make the trip to Dunshaughlin for the fast 10km course! Warm conditions weren't to everyone's liking but it was a very well organised event and I was pleased with my run of 37:27 to show there is still some life in the auld levers. Well done to all of my club teammates (Mayo AC) - a few age category prizes for Ruth and John and also team runners up for the ladies. Nice to chat to a few other runners who made the journey over from the west. William Fitzgerald (Craughwell AC Senior) had a cracking run of 29:27 for 3rd place and also great to see Jordan Walsh
(Craughwell AC) continue to impress in 32:43 for a top 20 finish.
If you have your eye on an autumn marathon, then now is the time for your threshold test. I can help with zones and a plan as you ramp up your training for the 26.2 miles. I am also testing lots of Hyrox runners so if you are unsure of your training zones then I can help out. Many thanks for all of the support. Matt

Back at the races last night for the Ballinrobe 5km! First race session since the health scare and feeling good. I was on pacing duties for a sub 21 minute time with Brian of Mayo AC. Never in doubt as we crossed the line in 20:09 for an 83 second PB! Amazing what the human body can do with a little encouragement hey Brian!?! Kudos to the organisers of this race. It has to be the fastest 5km route I have ever completed and the conditions were perfect. Lots of PB's and will set everyone up nicely for a great summer of racing! Matt

Interesting article about AFib that I have been sent by a few clients (irregular heart rate). I developed similar at the start of December, and after lots of tests and meds to control the risk, I successfully had a procedure today to get my heart back in regular rhythm (a cardioversion). Thanks to all of the staff in UHG who were fantastic, plus to friends, family and clients who have been very supportive the last 7 weeks. I picked this up with my Garmin, so I guess the moral of the story is that if you suspect something is wrong with your heart, get yourself checked out and hopefully there is a positive outcome. Matt

Back from when I started testing in 2014! Over 2,000 tests later and still going strong!
It's a busy start to the year here in Claregalway. Here is a quick recap of what's involved in a typical session:
- Lactate threshold testing – to make sure that every training session you conduct has a purpose and to get the most out of each run
- Body composition analysis – to establish what is going on with the body
- Cadence analysis – to see if you are running efficiently
- Full report with heart rate training zones and training plan – to ensure that you get the best possible results come race day
- Follow-up advice and support - whilst you transition over to your new heart rate based training plan
