Veterinary courses amongst the most sought after new choice on offer

Veterinary medicine has seen a big jump in interest from CAO applicants this year following the arrival of two new courses.

First-preference applications for Level 8 veterinary medicine rose by 42%, while the number of round-one offers more than doubled.

ATU had the highest veterinary points requirement at 647, followed by UCD at 589 and SETU at 566.

It was a different picture for agricultural science, where first preferences and points for Level 8 courses fell across the board.

🏆🏆 The Clifden Supreme Cup 🏆 🏆

Wow, isn’t it amazing to see so many fabulous ponies over the years whose names adorn the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society cup.
A cup that started in 1965 and is the pinnacle of the In-Hand Show annually.

1971: Kimble (227) (Dun Aengus x Inver Colleen) born in 1965, the then 6 year old stallion and my Grandfather Willie Diamond were the Supreme winners.

Kimble was the first Stallion to win the Supreme, prior to that the winners of the first 6 years had been a mare.

🏆🏵️🎉 Kimble is the sire of Abbeyleix Owen, who is the sire of Cloonisle Cashel, who is the sire of Silver Shadow, who is the sire of Drumhass Silver Shadow, our 3yo Class 1 Stallion and 3yo C**t Class and the Junior Championship winner in Clifden 2026.

🏆🏵️🎉 Congrats to this year’s Supreme winner Gurteen Jennifer and Brian Mullen and all the Mullen family of Gurteen ponies.
Thank you to Cathal Mullen “Gurteen Jennifer’s” Breeder for sending me the picture of my Grandads badge on the cup.

Parade of Champions going around the town

27/08/2026

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) would like to reassure breeders that its Registration Unit continues to operate as normal and that the passporting system and timelines have been unaffected by the recent developments involving the organisation going into examinership.

HSI has been made aware of a false narrative claiming that passports and registrations will not be processed as a result of these recent developments.

This is categorically false and applications ARE NOT AFFECTED.

We would also like to remind breeders of the early bird pricing for foal passport registration with pedigree (and also with naming) which concludes on Monday August 31st. All foal applications registered on the Horse Source system before close of business on August 31st will be priced at the early bird rate.

🌎 🐾 International Dog Day 🐾 🌎
(26/08/2026)

Today, We celebrate International Dog Day, which takes place annually on August 26th,
a heartwarming tribute to our furry canine companions who make our lives better with their unconditional love, loyalty, slobbery kisses and endless affection so in honor of this wonderful bond between man and canine, International Dog Day is celebrated. 🐾🐾

From Pets to Working dogs; rescue to guide dogs and everything in between, they’ve pulled survivors from earthquakes and other disasters to guiding one across the road. Intercepting criminal activity and being faithful companions who provide pure devotion. Dogs are truly special
