Throwback to last weekend to the Leinster Junior Team tournament that was hosted within our Club.
Event that is build to compete as a team of 3 players competing against other teams in singles matches.
A tournament that has a lot of good memories as it was the Academies first ever competition that we entered back in 2023. We started with 1 team / entry of 3 players, but this Season we entered record breaking entry of 7 teams / 21 players.
There were some players who had prior experience to competitions, but over half our entries were in their debut moment! This is what this competition is all about to have the chance to play players your level and not just age to have the most competitive environment. Gain match and tournament experience by representing your club and yourself to work as a team. Coach, communicate and build deeper relationship with your teammates.
This sport has really grown into something amazing, but this is only the start!! We hope we can provide more competitions for beginner / new comers to gain the necessary experience which they can use to compete in higher level competitions.
Well done to all of the participating Players and Clubs of the event as they themselves had their own milestones reached!

History in the making ๐
Our very own Academy home grown player Anna Matsveyeva is making her full International debut for Irish table tennis team this weekend.
Competing with her teammates to represent Ireland in the Primary Schools International Championships in Scotland.
Anna started playing the sport at age of 8 of once a week. A few months later closing in on her 9th birthday she made her competitive debut during National Championships. In that event she came last in Under 11 girls.
12 months later at that exact event she was won the National champion of Under 11โa and ended the season as #1 ranked girl in Under 11 in Ireland.
Another 12 months and now sheโs in Scotland making her professional Junior debut ๐
Whatever happens, the inevitable will come through where she will process it, grow and develop even further. We as a Club will support and provide her all the resources possible to push and reach a new level for the next season.
Well done to Anna and good luck to Irish team ๐ ๐ ๐ช

R.I.P Mr.Josef Veselsky ๐
This person was responsible for achievements, standards and progression of our sport. The long lasting legacy that he has left behind is beyond any words that can be written.
I had the honour and privilege to meet him during my playing days in my boyhood club. Our first encounter was him cooling me off because I was clearly frustrated and emotionally animated that he took on his shoulders of responsibility to speak with me even though he was just a spectator in a formal suit.
From the conversation it built a new perspective and mindset that growth in this sport was never ending. In addition, at the time he told me that he was attending Trinity college as a student at 95 years of age. He then became the Universities oldest graduate at 97 years old. Unbelievable!!
Table Tennis Ireland is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Josef Veselsky, Honorary Life President of Table Tennis Ireland and a towering figure in our sport.
Josef, known to everyone as Joe, was a remarkable Dublin resident. Born in Bratislava in 1918, he made Dublin his home from 1948. He is best known for his outstanding achievements in table tennis, including serving as national team captain for both Czechoslovakia and Ireland.
When Joe retired from active administration, he was appointed Honorary Life President of the Irish Association. He was also a co-founder and President of the Swaythling Club International, the worldwide association for former international table tennis players.
Joe Veselsky lived a life marked by profound challenge and resilience. During World War II, he lost his parents and a brother in Auschwitz and later joined the Czech underground resistance movement. After the war, he moved to Ireland, where he built a successful jewellery business and continued to make a lasting contribution to the table tennis community.
Joe Veselsky received numerous accolades, including:
Commander of the Slovak Order of the White Double Cross for his contributions to sport and diplomacy
Special Merit Award from the Soccer Writers Association of Ireland
Honorary Master of Arts degree from Trinity College Dublin
Ambassador of the Century Award from the Irish Table Tennis Association
More recently, he was awarded the European Table Tennis Union Badge of Honour for his outstanding contribution to the work and objectives of the ETTU and to the development of table tennis in Europe.
A true legend of the Dublin sporting scene, Joe was officially recognised last year, at the age of 107, as Irelandโs oldest man.
Joe Veselskyโs resilience, integrity, and lifelong dedication to table tennis leave an enduring legacy. On behalf of Table Tennis Ireland, we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.
Funeral Service to celebrate Josefโs life will be held on Wednesday 7th January at 10am in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium, Haroldโs Cross, DUBLIN D6WHY98.

Happy Holidays to our Members and all players around the world ๐ This sport connects and interacts with many different countries and cultures with an ease.
Thatโs what makes this sport this unique that everyone and anyone can play with each other and enjoy it.
Now itโs time to spend that extra time with the close ones of family and friends. Make memories and moments that can be looked back with a smile ๐
