✨It was a busy weekend on the roads around the region for club members, with the Ratoath Half Marathon taking prime billing!

The Men’s team took third place in the team competition, with Peter Roche leading the team home in 1:18:44. Peter was followed home by Rory McDonnell (1:19:53), Barry Comer (1:22:52) and Ian Mulreid (1:24:15).

The Women’s team finished in sixth place, with Aisling Queeney earning a 1:32:43 PB as she led the women’s team, quickly followed by Laura Whittaker (1:37:20), Edel Somers (1:37:47) and Michelle Robson (1:42:14).

With almost 30 runners from the club taking part in the race, preparations are in a great place for the upcoming Autumn Marathons.

Away from the home straight in Fairyhouse, Igor Radev finished 13th in the Lucan AC 5 Mile Race, in 28:16. A special well done to Gary McReynolds who ran 39:22, 24 hours after competing in Ratoath.

At the Dromoskin 5k in Louth, the Women’s team finished in third place, with Mairead Hogan leading the team home, that also included Claire Ni Fhaircheallaigh, Grace Kelly and Carol Cullinane. Congrats too to Rory Kavanagh, who had a top-ten finish in his age grade.

In Navan, there was plenty of celebrations at the Ras Gael Scoil Eanna with Heather Harold (1st), Ruth O’Connor (2nd), Graham Bishop (3rd) and Ray Mitchell (6th), all impressing in their respective age grades!

Further afield, Michael Cornyn and Morgan McDonagh competed at the British Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Derby. In the M45 400m Morgan was 3rd in his heat, 9th overall. Michael was 6th in the M65 400m final and 7th in the M65 800m final.

✨On Thursday August 27th Dunboyne AC held our annual track night. In amongst the 5k and mile races, Michael Cornyn took on the challenge of improving his previous M65 mile record of 6:21.

With Eimear English and David O'Connell as pacers, Michael battled through the driving rain to finish the 4 laps in 6 minutes 15 seconds. A fine run from Michael in tough conditions with great support around the track too.

Congrats to the ten club members who made the trip to a wet Tullamore on Saturday, for the annual Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon.

With almost 1,200 finishers, the race is one of the biggest on the calendar, as preparations continue for the Autumn Marathons in Dublin and further afield.

The race also counted at this year's Leinster Championships, with Edel Somers (1:35:15) winning silver in the F50 category. Edel's Net Time was quicker than the winner, but Gross Time counts in the competition.

Edel, Laura Whittaker (1:35:33) and Ciara McCrossan (1:36:24) also won silver in the Leinster F35 Team Competition, with the trio helping Meath win bronze in the county competition.

Congrats to the team on some brilliant runs and numerous PBs!

Last weekend saw the club represented on the west coast, with both Daniel Kelly and James Coffey taking part in the 40th un.

The race, which starts and ends in Strandhill, Sligo sees the 1300 runners climb up Knocknarea mountain, and return to the village. Not your standard race! Congrats to both Daniel and James.

Closer to home, Annette Conroy and Ray Mitchell both impressed at the Tara AC 5k. Annette cam second in her age category (23:06) with Ray finishing in 25:38. Well done Annette and Ray!

As preparations continue for the upcoming Autumn Marathons, 10 Milers were on the menu for club members over the weekend.

The Frank Duffy 10 Mile took place on Saturday in Phoenix Park. Peter Haines impressed in the Junior category, finishing in the top-ten in just under 1:09, while there were also impressive runs from Aisling Queeney, Dave Humphreys and Edel Somers.

On Sunday, the Kilcock 10 from 10 took place, with Dunboyne winning the overall Team competition as Alex Burke led the team home in 57:09.

In the shorter distance, Sean Bailey and Mary Watters both impressed at the Rathkenny 5k, both winning their respective age grades.

We are very sad to hear of the passing last night of Bertha Tracey, mother of our long term, Fit for Life member, Ann Garrett. Our sympathies go out to Ann and all her family. May she rest in peace.
