CP Football Development Academy

This past weekend was another special one for our Club as the Republic of Ireland CPMNT took on Northern Ireland at the home of Clones Town in Co. Monaghan.

In a playing squad of 17, 14 of the players came through the ranks at our Club.
Club players Ruadhan Dooley McDonagh, Sam Mangan, Luke Staunton, Darryl Fay and Sam Graham all made their first appearances in the Green shirt in a 9-0 win for the Republic.

Eight of the nine goals on the day were scored by Club players.
Warren Morrissey scored twice and there was a fine finish from Eric O’ Flaherty to mark his return to the National team.
There were first international goals from Club players Conor Halpin and Jack O’ Sullivan, as well as debut goals for Darryl Fay (x1) and Sam Graham (x2)
International Captain and CP football legend Dillon Sheridan was the other goalscorer.

National team training on Academy turf 🇮🇪

The AUL hosted the CPMNT today as the provisional squad prepare for the World Cup coming up this October in Atlanta.

Our Club was represented by 13 of the training squad of 16 today. In the provisional squad of 22, 19 of the players represent the Club past and present 💪🏻

We would like to wish a massive Happy Birthday to The DoF! Our Director of Football, coach and a great man.

At 69 years young his enthusiasm and passion for helping young footballers to reach their potential playing the game that he loves is unmatched. He’s done it all and has a lot more to do.

Another season has rolled to a finish for us. It’s been another great few months filled with unforgettable moments and memories. Just a few of our favourites are pictured below

We’ve picked up some trophies, unbelievable team performances and experiences across every group this year. It’s not quite finished for all of our players yet as some of them will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime to the USA with the Club next week.
We will also have players training with our national teams through the summer preparing for the Men’s and Women’s World Cup later this year.

We’ve had more young players knocking on the door of our MNT.
New players have come through the gates in the AUL to push us on to another successful year next year.

We’re into our tenth calendar year as the CP Development Academy but next season will be our tenth season and we hope to make it a special one 💪🏻 More on that very soon.

A huge thank you to all of the parents, grandparents, guardians, family members and friends who take the time to get the players to training every week.
Thank you to our coaches, committee members and volunteers for all of the tireless work throughout the year.

Most of all, thank you to our players for your passion, dedication and hard work.

Everyone at our Club would like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Tony Cosgrave.

Once in a while you are fortunate enough to meet a gentleman of the game and Tony was certainly one of those. A friend to all who knew him, Tony will be sadly missed by the football community, particularly those involved with the AUL.
Tony was a true ambassador to Irish football, his association with the AUL dates back over 40 years, bringing so much to our game in that time.

Our thoughts are with Tony’s wife Carmel, his four children, extended family and friends.
