The official Facebook of Weightlifting Ireland. The National Governing Body for weightlifting in IRL.

Weightlifting Ireland is the national governing body for weightlifting as recognised by Sport Ireland. The all-Ireland body, as affiliated to the International Weightlifting Federation (I.W.F.), has representation across all 4 provinces and takes applications for membership from all 32 counties. Our members are eligible to compete internationally for Ireland and we have a proud history of inclusivity and the highest standards of competition attendance.

The best lifters over the weekend were;
▪️ Beáta Jung (-69kg/Fianna Weightlifting Club) : 87kg/97kg – 184kg (236.228 Sinclair)
▪️ Seán Brown (-95kg/Fianna Weightlifting Club) : 130kg/160kg – 290kg (353.859 Sinclair)

Firstly, congratulations and thanks to all the volunteers, referees, coaches who helped and most importantly the athletes who participated to make this event possible! As a result, we were able to train more officials, referees & loaders to help our organisation continue to grow & improve. 🍀

Weightlifting Ireland is delighted to announce that three (3) athletes have been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming FISU World University Championships. The team is made up of two (2) female athletes and one (1) male athlete. They will be accompanied by two (2) coaches.

Aim:
These courses are a result of Weightlifting Ireland implementing a standard coaching curriculum for all coaches. This is the first level of four available in the coaching curriculum. It is suitable for all fitness and sports coaches. The aim of level 1 is to provide Coaches with the ability to introduce participants to the sport of Weightlifting, the technique of the Clean and Jerk, the Sn**ch and associated exercises.

Entry requirements:

“Assistant Coach”

▪️ Participants should be 18 years of age or over.
▪️ Participants must have at least six (6) months practical experience with the Olympic lifts (Sn**ch and Clean & Jerk).
▪️ If participants don’t have at least six (6) months practical experience then they must have attended our Sn**ch and Clean & Jerk Workshops prior to taking out Level 1 Coaching Course.
▪️ Participants should have a knowledge of weight training and a basic knowledge of anatomy/physiology.
▪️ Participants must have an active Weightlifting Ireland membership.

“Club Coach”

▪️ Following successful completion of the “Assistant Coach” course and a minimum of 6 months coaching practice participants will be certified as a “Club Coach”.
▪️ Participants must have an active Weightlifting Ireland membership.

Weightlifting Ireland is delighted to announce that four (4) athletes have been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming European Youth & U15 Championships. The team is made up of two (2) female athletes and two (2) male athletes. They will be accompanied by three (3) coaches, our NCO and two (2) international technical officials (ITO).

This event will take place in Pristina, Kosovo. Competition dates are from 20th – 27th August, 2026.
