Dirk and Ciarán joined 17 other players from around the country at GRIFFEEN VALLEY PETANQUE CLUB for the 2026 IPA Precision Shooting competition.
Our neon green heroes were sitting in 6th and 7th place after Round 1 but were disappointed with weaker scores in Round 2. Ciarán's combined score just about held up and he finished in 8th place to sneak into the Quarter-Finals.
This meant a duel with Sariff! Despite a strong performance, Ciarán went down 34 to 24 and Sariff marched on. Dirk very kindly recorded the QF which you can watch below... I've edited to 2x speed.
Well done to Gregory from Griffeen who was the overall winner following some stellar shooting. And thank you to all the organisers, scorers and volunteers for another excellent IPA event, bravo!

What a wonderful day we had supporting the GRIFFEEN VALLEY PETANQUE CLUB Charity event in aid of SVDP!
Lots of money raised, cracking weather, great hospitality, friendly competitors and some seriously good boules to boot, what's not to love?!
Eileen D, Irene, Tom D and Ciarán won three out of four matches in the qualifying round and placed 4th out of 10 teams to make it through to the knockout phase where Griffeen 1 awaited in the SFs.
The SF was a tense game with the home team prevailing by a single point, 9 to 8. A particularly shocking end where we gave away the full 6 points was our undoing. We clawed our way back into the game but with time now our enemy, the whistle went just before we could throw out the jack for another end. And that was that unfortunately. Lessons learned and more experience gained, onward for the neon green army!
Congrats to Park Pétanque on their victory and hard luck to Griffeen 1, the Final was fiercely contested and very enjoyable to watch.

It was our pleasure to welcome the City of Bath Pétanque Club to Alden Park on the first leg of their Ireland tour. A few hours of friendly competition was interspersed with lots of chats, laughter, sandwiches (!) and bonhomie both on and off the pistes. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
