Plenty of race action this weekend with multiple events taking place between Friday and Sunday. A few took part in the Dublin Zoo run for wildlife and there were some impressive Half, Full and Ultra Marathons.

The attraction of the beach and the end of race ice cream was too much to resist for some on Friday night. The club had 4 participants among the 690 finishers at the Portmarnock 5k. Alan Flannery (24:35), Michelle Brett (24:56), Jason Monahan (26:34) and Daniel Cronin (27:09) were the Lusk runners.

Huge congratulations to Trish Duffy who completed the epic achievement of finishing the Wicklow Way Race yesterday evening - that's 130k race of the full Wicklow Way.
Thanks to Peter Doyle for his help throughout the race & for sending in the report.
It was North to South this year so the race started in Marley Park at 9pm Friday night and 20hrs & 38mins later Trish rolled into Conegal County Carlow to beat the 21hr cutoff. There were some tough conditions through the night & day with plenty of rain. It's great to have another club member join the list of finishers.
I skipped it this year and volunteered instead & crewed Trish through the various checkpoints.
A brilliant achievement by Trish. This race is not for the fainthearted and over 25% of starters, similar to previous years, fail to complete it so incredible grit, resilience & determination from her.
There are 4 intermediary checkpoints all with their own cutoff times, as well as the final, overall, 21hr limit, so keeps pressure on runners to keep moving to avoid being timed out.
~4,000m of climb along the way & after a dry start there was very heavy rain from 5am onwards which added to hardship.
She did great and kept trucking along - was a pleasure to crew for her at each checkpoint to keep her fed & watered and moving along.
She has joined a very elite club of finishers.

Well done to Tom Brennan and Sean Greensit who were among almost 1,200 finishers on Saturday morning at the Tullamore Half Marathon which also incorporated the Leinster Championships. It was a challenging course with plenty of hills prior to a lap of the stadium track. Tom came home in a great time of 1.24:28 while Sean recorded a PB of 1:31:24 beating his previous best from 9 years ago.

Congratulations to Paddy Downey who completed the Sydney Marathon on Sunday morning down under and in doing so achieved his 7th star. Arguably the hardest of the majors with hills being a prominent factor. Nevertheless, Paddy finished in a super time of 3:07:47 while enjoying the scenic course.

Well done to the 2 Lusk athletes who were racing in Longford on Sunday morning. Sam Mulhare (1:28:39) and Fiachra Beirne (1:30:23) both ran well in the Half Marathon.

A look at the consolidated club report in the link below shows how global parkrun has now become. Lusk had finishers in both Tokyo and New York as well as a few closer to home. Have barcode will travel has become the new mantra.
Well done to Gavin Gleeson (19:33) who was 6th at Poppintree with a PB. There was also a PB there for Dara O'Reilly (27:51). Geraldine McHale (21:56) was 1st female finisher at Donabate and Michelle Walsh (26:26) was 2nd female at Ardgillan.
Other locations visited were Brooklyn Bridge, Unoki and Inch Beach.

There were 30 Lusk athletes among the 183 finishers at the Man O War Round 7k on Thursday. It was a warm and sunny evening with the first half a pleasant downhill experience with a somewhat more challenging final 3k.
First over the line for the club was Dylan Cody-Foy (28:31) in 5th place with Sean Greensit (29:20) in 8th followed by Darragh Moore (30:45). Our top women were Grace Kodia (34:17), Elizabeth O'Reilly (35:21) and Michelle Walsh (35:38).
Well done to all and to the army of volunteers who helped to make the event run so smoothly.

James Whelan and Peter Doyle took part in the IMRA Mountain Rescue Benefit race on Wednesday. James completed the 8k course around Paddock Hill near Larragh in 48:24 while Peter swears he was only there to get a better view of the eclipse.
