🙌 Meet 20 of our newest Olympic Handball Coaches!

This week we hosted a very special workshop for the Sport Ireland Campus team, led by Alex Marovich.

Over the summer, these staff members will introduce hundreds of children to Olympic Handball, helping even more young people experience the fun, energy and teamwork that make our sport so special.

A huge thank you to Sport Ireland Campus for their commitment to bringing new sporting opportunities to young people.

Our 2026 Annual Report is now live.

Looking back on the past year, more schools introduced handball, more young people got involved, more volunteers gave their time, and more clubs continued to create opportunities for their communities.

Some highlights from the year include:

• Record school participation across Ireland
• Continued growth in clubs and competitions nationwide
• Expanded coach and referee education programmes
• Further investment in Women in Sport initiatives
• Irish teams continuing to represent the country internationally

We hosted our 2026 Annual General Meeting at Irish Sports HQ - a powerful moment to reflect, celebrate and set the course for the next chapter of handball in Ireland.

✨Highlights from the year we celebrated at the AGM:

🔹 157 schools engaged and 506 teams competing - our biggest schools program yet.
🔹 6,000+ young participants and 1,000+ teachers & coaches reached.
🔹 New national injury surveillance & athlete monitoring program launched with UCD and Sport Ireland support.
🔹 EHF Masterplan funding secured to scale junior club pathways nationwide.
🔹 Stronger governance, expanded partnerships and growing digital reach.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with Learn Handball that will create a dedicated digital learning platform for the Irish handball community 🚀

The platform will support coaches, teachers, players, officials, and volunteers with access to education, resources, and development opportunities designed specifically for handball in Ireland.

Key features will include:

✅ Beginner drills and lesson plans
✅ School competition formats and rules
✅ Festival and blitz templates
✅ Structured 4–6 week coaching programmes for schools
✅ Teacher training and coaching pathway guidance
✅ Coach, player, and official development resources

With an estimated 175–500 users in the initial phase and significant potential for future growth, this partnership represents an important step in strengthening handball education and participation across Ireland.

42 exercises covering lower body strength, posterior chain, shoulder conditioning, core stability, and injury prevention. Step-by-step cues and coaching notes for each one.

Developed by the OHI Research Working Group, which found 72% of players are already training in the gym during the season without handball-specific guidance.
