With the previous post I want to encourage parents of children from PFC to try fencing!🤺🌟🤺
Fencing is a fantastic sport that can be enjoyed at any age and continued throughout your entire life. It doesn’t depend on good weather, finding a partner, or special conditions. All you need is your fencing bag and a local fencing club!
Fencing develops fitness, coordination, discipline, confidence, and strategic thinking, while providing a fun and welcoming environment for people of all ages.
This September, we will be starting a new beginners’ fencing courses. Everyone is welcome—children, teenagers, and adults. It’s never too early or too late to start fencing!
Join us and discover why so many people fall in love with this amazing sport. We look forward to welcoming new fencers to the club!

Today I visited the Veterans Fencing event and had the pleasure of meeting Michael Ryan.
Michael is one of the people who welcomed me into the Irish fencing community more than 20 years ago when I first moved to Ireland. Seeing him still competing today is a wonderful reminder of what our sport is all about.
At 82 years old, Michael is competing in World Cup events and continuing to enjoy the sport he loves. It is truly inspiring and shows that age should never be a barrier to staying active, challenging yourself, and being part of a sporting community.
Today, another Pembroke fencer, Andrey, competed in the same event. What makes his achievement even more remarkable is that he only started fencing 4–6 months ago—and this was his very first competition!
It takes real courage to step onto the piste at any competition, let alone at this level. Andrey, I am incredibly proud of you. Very well done.
At the end of the day, sport is not only about medals and achievements—although they are certainly nice to have. Sport is a journey. A life journey. It is about learning, trying, growing, overcoming challenges, and continuing to move forward.
Today was a wonderful reminder of that, from a first-time competitor to an 82-year-old World Cup fencer.
