Jim Mc Guinness is a legend.

We are devastated to hear the news about former Donegal All-Ireland U21 winner Sean Bonner.

Sean was rushed to Beaumont Hospital after suffering a severe bleed on the brain. He underwent an emergency operation, but during surgery a brain tumour was discovered, and he is now fighting for his life.

Sean Bonner is well-known within the Gaa, representing Donegal at Minor, U21 and Senior levels. He was full-back on the 1982, All-Ireland team who defeated Roscommon. He is also the older brother of former Donegal manager and player Declan Bonner.

A GoFundMe page was launched yesterday by Patrick Brolly.

"We are setting up this fundraiser for a very much loved family from Lettermacaward in Donegal, who sadly are facing a most difficult and unimaginable time, as their beloved husband and father, fights for his life in ICU, in Beaumont Hospital. His family says he has a very long road ahead of him.

TheGoFundMe campaign has been created to ease the financial pressure, that has now been placed on the Bonner family, due to the current situation. The family have to reside in Dublin, which is over 180 miles from Donegal.

"We would love to help to ease some of the financial burden put on the family, as their sole focus should be on Sean, and being together as a family" "Without the added stress of not being able to work, and unexpected costs that they are now facing"

The GoFundMe has a target of €5000, and so far has reached, over €11,000.

Jim McGuinness is set to remain on as Donegal senior football manager for a fourth year. 💚💛

The 2012 All-Ireland SFC winning manager has been an interested spectator at club championship games in the county over the past few weeks, and he will be at the Donegal helm once again in 2027.

McGuinness served four years during his previous tenure from 2011 to 2014, during which he won three Ulster SFC titles and the Sam Maguire. He stepped down after Donegal lost the 2014 All-Ireland final to Kerry, only to return again a decade later.

Since then, the Glenties man has led Donegal to two more Ulster SFC titles 1 NFL DIV 2 title, and an All-Ireland final appearance against Kerry last year. They avenged that defeat with big wins over the Kingdom in this year's Allianz League final and in Round 1 of the All-Ireland SFC.

Jim McGuinness is expected to make changes to his backroom team ahead of the new campaign.

We can also confirm that Michael Murphy will also be returning again next year. Michael retired in 2022, due to injury. He came out of retirement in 2025, and has been in fine form for both club and county. He was the 3rd highest scorer in the championship last year, scoring an impressive 0-52.

Whilst things didn't go our way this year, I've no doubt Jim will be working hard to rectify this during the winter. We look forward to 2027, when Jimmy will be back winning matches once again.

Today the people of Kilcar and Donegal bid farewell to a much-loved and well-respected couple James and Noreen McHugh.

Members of the 1992 and current players, past and present, formed a guard of honour outside the church before the funeral.

In his homily, parish priest Father William Peoples, said the couple had been in the same church in June, for the wedding of their daughter Emma. He said "it was a beautiful time"

We had rehearsals here in the church, and of course, I did the usual to the mother of any bride.

"Was it a hat or a feather that you're going to be putting on your head tomorrow?

"Noreen was well able for me, in her lovely, lovely quiet manner.

He said James was a very talented footballer, and i think one of the proudest days in his life in 1992, with himself and his brother Martin, and the 92 team, came home with Sam Maguire.

Father Peoples said: James and Noreen had their individual talents, but their loved for Emma and Eoin, was very evident. The love for the family, the love for the home, his love for his house, and the work he did in it, and her love for the garden.

Emma and Eoin addressed mourners at the conclusion of the funerals.

Tomorrow the people of Kilcar, Donegal, and further afield come together to say goodbye to the much-loved and well-respected couple, James and Noreen McHugh. A dark cloud has hung over the county since news broke of their tragic passing.

In these sad moments, hearts will grieve for two precious lives gone before their time. Two lives well lived will be remembered for the great memories, stories of love, and laughter they shared. Though tears have fallen, their presence will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

James and Noreen walked hand in hand through joy and trial, a bond that not even death can break. Family was so important to them, and their pride and joy were undoubtedly Eoin and Emma.

As you say your final goodbyes tomorrow, know that the community stands with you in your darkest hour, offering support and comfort. God bless you always James and Noreen.
