Riverside Athletic

Riverside Athletic were delighted to welcome Barbara O’Connell to Carbery yesterday evening to work with our U12, U13, U14 and U15 girls groups.

Barbara is a current senior player and coach with Wilton United, with an incredible 70+ titles to her name, including 20 senior league titles as a player. She is also a UEFA-qualified coach, manager of the recent winning Cork U14 Gaynor squad, and a coach with the elite Cork PDA coaching group.

A massive thank you to Barbara for giving her time to travel to Carbery to train our Riverside Athletic girls. She brought great warm-up routines and drills, along with excellent guidance for the end of session game.

Our players thoroughly enjoyed the session, and our coaches gained great insight from Barbara’s advice, knowledge and expertise. Thanks also to our U12 coach Alice Canty for organising the session.

On Thursday 6th August our under 9 team travelled to the show grounds in Clonakilty to play Ardfield in a league game. We started the game with great intensity and went 3 nil up after 10 minutes. We were determined to score more and we did with goals from Kyle Kenneally, James Hayes, Darragh Horgan, Naoise O'Brien, Mícheál Forbes and a hat-trick from Fionn O Mahony giving us a good victory 8-2. Keegan Spillane was our captain for the game and Mark O'Sullivan was our player of the match with another solid display at center back. Well done everyone.

On Thursday 30th July our under 9 team played a league game against Drinagh. Every player worked really hard and showed great skill and effort. We won the game 4-2 with goals from Keegan Spillane and a hat-trick for Darragh Horgan. Our Captain for the game was Noah Coomey with a special mention for Kate Brady at center back and Darragh Horgan as player of the game. Well done. (Old photo used)

On Friday night our U10s travelled to Drinagh where they came up against a very strong team. Our captain for the night was Sean who scored an absolute banger. Our guys did fight right to the last kick but unfortunately it wasn't enough.
Player of the match was Cameron with Aoife, Liam and Finn also gettinga special mention.

This bunch of legends played a brilliant game Saturday against a great Skibb team. Some unreal play and outstanding team work made it a very exciting game to be involved with. Player of the match was AJ who made some crucial saves to let us win the game 3-2. Next best were Fionn, Kyle and Cameron 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

On Thursday our under 11 team played a league game against Drinagh in Carbery. We started the game well and scored early with a James Galvin cracker. We almost held on for the win until Drinagh scored a late equaliser. The team worked very hard throughout the game and the improvement in this group is there for all to see. Keep up the hard work and well done. Our captain for the game was Adam Kenneally and our stand out player was Evan Dineen.

This morning our under 8 boys and girls played a strong Dunmanway team in Carbery. Each player worked really hard. The result didn't go our way but everyone kept going until the end. Our captain for the game was Jayden McCabe O'Mahony. Our goalscorers were Ned Lynch with a hat-trick and Darragh McCarthy scoring his first goal for the club. Our stand out players were Ned Lynch and James Hayes. Well done and thanks to our supporters.

What a morning for a game of ball and what a performance from this great bunch of lads and ladies. The effort and work from each of them was brilliant, super stuff from 1 to 11. Captain for today was Finn and our player of the match was Fionn, star players were Conor (with 2 goals) Jake and MJ. On we go again to the next game in 2 weeks time!!

On Monday evening our U12 girls played Clon Green in a league game which resulted in a 5-0 win for our ladies. The girls performance & teamwork was a joy to watch. Captain on the night was Cailyn & player of the game has to be given to Moya who scored all 5 goals 💪🏻💪🏻 super proud of ye all. Keep up the good work 💙💙

On Sunday our under 11 team travelled to Killmichael for a top of the table league game. Our players showed great skill and never gave up in tough conditions. The game finished 2-1 to Killmichael. Our captain for the game was Cailyn O' Sullivan. Our goalscorer was Fionn O'Sullivan. Our stand out player was Adam Brady who worked very hard in midfield. We stay joint top of the league. Well done everyone.
