Remembering Dinny With Love

There are no words that can truly express how heartbroken we are at the loss of our beloved Dinny.

Our deepest love, thoughts and condolences are with his family and all those who loved him at this incredibly sad time.

For 50+ years, Dinny gave his heart and soul to Douglas Hall AFC. He wasn't simply our President. He was a coach, a friend, a mentor, a storyteller and, to so many of us, simply Dinny — a very special person who became part of the lives and memories of generations of people connected to our club.

Dinny loved being President. He took enormous pride in his role and, most importantly, he loved being involved. He supported every section of the club, from our Academy boys and girls, underage and youth teams, right through to our senior men and ladies. It didn't matter what age you were or what team you played for — Dinny was always there, proudly supporting the players, coaches and volunteers who made up his club.

He especially loved being part of our prize-giving and awards nights, whether it was for our underage, youth or adult teams. Seeing the excitement on the faces of young players as they received their awards was something he genuinely cherished. He took great pride in recognising their achievements and celebrating their efforts, and it was another way he showed just how much the club meant to him.

There are so many memories that will now mean even more to us — meeting in Gartan Park for games, coaching, the friendships, the photographs, the stories, the laughter and the countless good times shared together.

Dinny loved a picture, he loved a good session, and he absolutely loved a sing-song. If there was music, laughter or a celebration, Dinny was never far away.

The football, the friendships, the craic, the celebrations and those unforgettable sing-songs are the moments we will hold close to our hearts and treasure forever.

Our 55th Anniversary Dinner Dance was Dinny at his happiest — celebrating the club he had given so much of his life to, surrounded by people he loved, enjoying the music, the laughter and, naturally, joining in with a song.

We are devastated that we will never again see that familiar smile, hear his voice, share a laugh with him or watch him enjoying another Douglas Hall celebration.

But amongst the heartbreak, there is also an enormous amount of love and gratitude.

92 years of life. Almost 50+ years of love, loyalty and dedication to Douglas Hall. A lifetime of friendships, memories, laughter and songs.

Dinny leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. His name, his stories, his laughter and the memories he gave us will live on in this club and in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

To Dinny’s family — we are so deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that he was so very loved, and that he will always have a very special place in the hearts of everyone at Douglas Hall.

Thank you, Dinny, for everything. Thank you for the memories, the friendships, the laughter, the photographs, the good sessions, the celebrations and, most of all, the songs.

We will miss you more than words can say.

Forever our President. Forever our friend. Forever part of Douglas Hall.

Rest peacefully, Dinny. 🕊️💙💛

Until we meet again.
