The most important thing you can bring to any training session isn't a football, a hurley or the latest piece of equipment—it's communication.
Communication is at the heart of every great coach and every great teammate. Encourage your players. Give clear instruction. Motivate them. Praise effort. Build confidence. Correct with positivity.
The words we choose can inspire a player to keep trying, believe in themselves and enjoy their sport even more.
Whether it's GAA or any other sport, never underestimate the power of your voice.
Communicate. Encourage. Inspire. Every session. Every player. Every time. 🧡🏐

I won't be sharing the video that's doing the rounds.
What we will share is this...
There is never a place for abuse, intimidation or violence in sport. But when it happens at a juvenile match, in front of children who simply want to play the games they love, it is especially heartbreaking.
Our young players are always watching. They learn from how we behave on the sidelines, how we speak to referees, coaches, opposition players and each other.
Grassroots sport should be about enjoyment, respect, teamwork and creating lifelong memories—not fear, anger or confrontation.
Every referee, coach and volunteer gives their time so our children can play. They deserve our thanks and our respect, not abuse.
Let's remember why we're there. The game belongs to the children.
Be the adult they can look up to. 💚💛

🔶 Activities are a Guide... Not the End Goal! 🔶
As coaches, our role isn't just to run activities—it's to adapt them to challenge every player at the right level.
A simple activity can become more engaging, competitive and game-like by using the STEPR principle.
S – Space
📍 Change the size or shape of the playing area.
T – Task / Time
⏱️ Change the challenge or reduce the time available.
E – Equipment
🥅 Change the number of balls, marker colours, goal sizes or equipment used.
P – Players
👥 Add or remove players, or change their roles.
R – Rules
📋 Introduce or modify rules.
Example: Hand passing only, weaker foot, score within 5 seconds, or 3 passes before shooting.
Remember... every player develops at a different pace. Keep activities challenging but achievable, and always create an environment where players enjoy learning.
🟠 Encourage always.
🟠 Coach positively.
🟠 Develop confidence.

Sometimes the best coaching activities are the simplest! 👏
Activities don't need to be complicated to be beneficial.
🟠 A line of markers in front of a goal.
🟠 One player at each marker.
🟠 Kick the ball, collect it, then move on to the next cone.
Simple... but so effective!
✅ Kicking from different angles
✅ High number of repetitions
✅ Players constantly engaged
✅ Great decision-making
✅ Fantastic warm-up activity
Remember, it's not about how complicated the drill is—it's about maximising touches on the ball, keeping players active and making every minute of training count.
