Gold for Dylan as Shercock AC Athletes Impress at National Championships

Shercock AC athletes enjoyed another busy weekend of national competition on the 11th and 12th July in Tullamore, with athletes competing on Day 3 of the National Juvenile Championships and at the National Juvenile Outdoor 'B' Championships.
On Saturday the 11th, Dylan O'Reilly competed in the U15 1500m at the National Juvenile Championships. Dylan produced an outstanding performance taking the lead mid way through the race and opened up a big gap on the rest of the field., Dylan kicked again with 400m to go, comfortably going on to win and claim the National U15 1500m title in 4:21.73. It was a fantastic achievement for Dylan and a reward for all the hard work he has put in throughout the season.
Also in action was Abby Smith, who competed in the U18 1500m. Abby just finished outside the medals this time in a time of 4:42.96 .

On Sunday the 12th of July, attention turned to the National Juvenile Outdoor 'B' Championships. The 'B' Championships provide athletes who miss qualification for the National 'A' Championships with the opportunity to compete at national level. They offer valuable championship experience and are an important stepping stone in the development of young athletes as they continue to improve and progress.

Shercock AC had a strong team competing across a variety of track and field events:
• Della Rosney (U12) competed in both the Shot Putt and Long Jump.
• Evan Lennon (U12) produced an excellent run in the 600m, recording a personal best of 1:56.98.
• Èadaoin McGuirk (U13) competed in the 80m and Long Jump.
• Róisín Alwell (U14) competed in both the 80m and Shot Putt achieving a personal best in both event.
•Sarah Jane Rosney (14) competed in both the 80m and Shot Put with a PB.
• Eimear McGuirk (U15) competed in the 800m and a new personal best in the Long Jump.

Congratulations to all our athletes for representing Shercock AC with pride across both championships. Whether competing for national titles or gaining valuable experience at championship level, every athlete demonstrated tremendous commitment and determination.

Strong Performances from Shercock AC Duo at National Competitions

Shercock AC athletes Thomas Williams and Sean Harding were in action over the past two weekends, once again representing the club with distinction on the national stage.
At the Senior AAI Games in Santry on 19th July, Thomas claimed victory in the 7.26kg Hammer, producing a winning throw of 54.83m. Sean also impressed, winning his 400m heat in a time of 49.01 seconds.
Last weekend, both athletes returned to Santry for the Irish National Senior Outdoor Championships. Thomas continued his consistent form, finished a very creditable 5th in the Senior Hammer, recording a best throw of 55.05m.
Sean also delivered a strong performance in the 200m, finishing 2nd in his heat in 21.91 seconds. Unfortunately, despite an excellent run, he narrowly missed out on a place in the final.
Well done to both Thomas and Sean on their outstanding performances and for representing Shercock AC with pride at the highest level of Irish athletics.

Abby Smith Delivers Outstanding Top 10 Finish at International U18 Mountain Running Cup

A huge congratulations to Abby Smith, representing Northern Ireland & Ulster, who produced a superb performance at the International U18 Mountain Running Cup in Gagliano del Capo, Italy.
Abby delivered a superb performance to finish 7th overall in 24:55 securing a top 10 placing and was the first Northern Ireland & Ulster athlete home, in a field of almost 60 athletes from across Europe and the USA.
The race was won by Clara McKee (England), with Elyna Mille (France) finishing second and Nancy Corrie (Scotland) third. With Abby's outstanding run earning her 7th place overall.
Athletes took on a challenging 4.6km course with 191 metres of ascent. The race took place in the spectacular coastal setting of Gagliano del Capo, in the Salento region of southern Italy. The course is famous for its rugged Mediterranean terrain, technical trails, rocky limestone paths and dramatic views overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Athletes faced a demanding route that combined steep climbing with fast, technical running, making it a true test of mountain running ability.
Adding to the challenge, competitors had to contend with temperatures of around 30°C at the start of the race, creating tough racing conditions and placing an even greater emphasis on pacing, hydration and resilience. To finish 7th at U18 international level is a fantastic achievement and another significant milestone in Abby's development.
