Division 1A Villa 2-3 Carrick United

Our first game back after the break was a daunting away trip to an always impressive Villa outfit. The home team started impressively and managed 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the game to put them 2-0 in front. We were miles off it at this stage and only for the home team missing a couple of chances, along with our keeper Bill Foley making a couple of exceptional saves it could have been a lot worse for us in the first half an hour.
However, we got going around the half hour mark and started creating a couple of chances from set pieces and good play from our forwards. On the 44th minute we got a reprieve when a super ball from Danny Murphy put Ian Holloway through and a great finish from him made it 2-1 before half time.

Second half begun with us back on top and we managed to equalise shortly after to make it 2-2 after a fantastic pass from Daryl Hanrahan found Tim Treacy who slipped a ball through for Jay O’Gorman to d**k it over the keeper and draw us level. More chances came with good work from Jay and Danny which we maybe should have done better with but the ball just wouldn’t quite fall for either to finish.
Villa grew back in to it and the game became tit for tat. The deciding blow came in the 80th minute when a kick out from Bill found Ian tearing down the line and he took control, faced the defender up, cut inside and scored a bullet of a strike to the keepers left. Villa pressed us hard after this but some resolute defending meant we kept them at bay to get the 3 points.
Our next game is on Wednesday the 19th at home to Johnville where we hope to keep our good form alive.
