Our final year Civil Engineering students were fortunate to have Francis Magee, an Environmental Engineer from Viltra, on campus today to deliver a lecture on the work of Viltra. Viltra (ref www.viltra.ie) design, supply and maintain package wastewater treatment systems and wastewater pumping stations across Ireland. Francis listed the key information that, they as a supplier, require from Consulting Engineers to enable them to select the optimal design solution for a site. He outlined the technologies currently available to treat various types of effluent and how they work. He stressed the importance of good flow data and the composite sampling of raw effluent to optimise the operation and process control in a plant to meet the required discharge standards and the importance of regular maintenance and monitoring to ensure a good lifespan for the plant. SETU lecturer Jer Keohane in thanking Francis for his presentation noted the importance of bringing experts from industry to share their knowledge with SETU students. "We were very grateful to Francis for a very informative lecture and appreciate very much the time Francis has given to preparing and delivering this lecture. Our students are lucky to get the benefit of his expertise."
