Tonight I.T. Carlow had three athletes competing at the A.I.T. International Grand Prix.

Molly Scott secured 3rd place in a world class women's 60m - running two more European Indoor standards in the process!

Marcus Lawler also competed in a world class 60m against world silver medalist Su Bingtan where lowered his seasons best to 6.80 - unbelievably close to the European Indoor standard of 6.78.

Shane Aston competed in the 60 meters hurdles where he made the final and lowered his personal best to 8.26.

All three athletes, along with many others, are shaping up nicely for their National Championships this weekend.

Wednesday night saw our athletes formally receive their sports scholarships. Molly Scott, Marcus Lawler, John Fitzsimons, Cliodhna Manning, David Murphy Adam Murphy and Callan Byrne were all recognised for their sporting achievements. Also a great milestone as it is the most amount of athletics scholarships awarded in I.T. Carlow yet. Looking forward to seeing what the athletics club can achieve this year.

Great day for I.T. Carlow A.C. yesterday at the Munster Road Relay Champs in C.I.T. We had two men's and one women's team competing.

In the Women's race, Emma O'Hanlon-Geary lead the team through first leg passing to Eimear Loughman who stormed the second leg and finally to Isobel Oakes who ran a strong 3km final leg to cement the team in 3rd place!

In the Men's race we had two teams. The Men's first team consisting of Gary Cantwell, Danny Lawler and John Fitzsimons all sealed the deal to place 3rd in a sprint finish. They were unlucky not to place higher with 3 seconds between the first three positions!

The Men's second team, consisting of Vincent Carroll, Tomas Breen and Cormac O'Ceallaigh put in three solid performances to finish 8th in a very classy race!

Special mentions go to Eimear Loughman who recorded the fastest 1k of the day with a speedy 3:35 and John Fitzsimons who recorded the fastest 3k time with a blistering 9:04 !!

These teams will be back in action again next week for the IUAA Road Relay Championships 2018 ITC Clubs & Societies
