“First session of pre season, we’re going a block of lactate work to start and finish off with 3 Blocks of 8 tempos…then we’ll get some hurling in afterwards.”

Block by block. Pitch work and conditioning in my opinion is the exact same as we’d approach exercise selection and prescription on volume and intensity in the weights room.

It is a marathon, not a sprint. You have time, if programmed correctly to build volume and intensity over time. You’ll see the rewards, as you come into the competitive end of your season.

Guns blazing from day one - recipe for distaste!

Quality over quantity.

This weekend just gone has made me realise you can’t let something that you love just go.

It’s easy to pack up, move on. Do you carry guilt over, forever, have I made a rash decision, second guessing myself. Is it all part and parcel of changing something that was me for so long?

I had a phenomenal weekend, with the new job and then Senior Hurlers Gala Night.

What Saturday night showed me is that, it’s just not a club. The lads are just not players, the management aren’t just someone you answer to and get on with your job.

This club and team are a tight, a unit and a family. When business end commences, we tighten up from day one and get the job started. We know what we need to do and they boys build on the foundations that management have set.

This isn’t a post to glorify an individual, a group or a club.

To the lads and lassie I spoke to on Saturday and to the main man, thank you, because if it wasn’t for them and certainly Carley - I’d be totally out of the game and that just doesn’t sit right.

So - that being said,

I’m delighted to say that the Season of 2023/2024, - I’ll be committing and staying as Lead S&C for Senior Hurling panel for my 3rd year/season.

Catch you on the field, again.

Leinster IHC Final - Pending.

Immensely proud of the lads today, players from no.1 to no.30 and above.

The consistent work they have shown from day one, 4-5 years ago and to now - these are the rewards!

We’ve another gear to crack open.

Job is far from done, we didn’t rock in to Leinster Championship to get to a final. We rocked in to Leinster Championship, to win the final.

Saturday, 10th December - vs Trim GAA in Aughrim.

Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship Final.

Final Week Of Prep - Completed ✅

Senior Hurlers lead into their Leinster Championship Quarter Final vs Abbeyleix this Saturday.

They’ve prepped, they’ve worked hard from day one and now it time to show, yet again the hard work the boys have put in this season so far.

All local support from Bray is appreciated and even better, out side of Bray for - supporting a Wicklow team vs a Laois team.

Saturday 12th November - Aughrim County Grounds @ 13:30.

We’re back in the mix with Pres and the refereeing is still dodgy as ever 🙋🏼‍♂️

There will be some bribing going on next time to get out of those duties 🤥

Let’s just keeping coaching 🤌🏼

Delighted to announce that I will be working under .jackman for the season of 2022/23 in Presentation College Bray.

A school that I graduated from in 2014 and held a close part to my development years as a coach, now given the opportunity to learn and develop in key roles under the guidance and calibre of coaching of Bernard.

Looking forward to developing and setting out to coach youths, implementing progressions for player pathways through the systems in place in Pres.

Tuesday Trails 🏃🏼‍♂️

Trail Route; Bray Head (Wilton Hotel) Route - Cliff Walk High Trail - Down into Kilruddery Cottages - along windgates road = Done ✅

Running Thoughts;

- What am I at?

- For a hill, it’s a bollox of a run

- I would be very comfortable in registering with for there 19km trail run as my first ever trail event. Covered Kilruddery loop and now this route. I would be confident tackling it from the seafront up.

- Breathing heavy, lungs feeling “heavy”, deep dark place will always have a light at the end of the tunnel somewhere - carry on.

Distance; 6km on the money
Time; 46.16
Ave Pace; 12.12
Total Ascent; 611ft

Thursday Trail run, Kilruddery repeat 🤝

Erg Army X AXE Performance 🔥

What an absolute pleasure and catch up with a friend .erbacher this afternoon!

We had a solid session in lead by the man of the hour,

I attended Jane’s seminar in 2019 host by - we were taught all things rowing and skiing in the ergs. A full weekend of nuggets.

She’s on her Europe tour at the moment, with one more seminar in Brays, then flies out to Switzerland on Tuesday to continue on.

Thank you to Jane for your time, your class energy, all things Ergs and Australia.

Final Trail Run 🏃🏼‍♂️

2 trail runs completed this week - May take a handier approach at the end of the weekend/weekend.

Increase the mileage next week 2 runs at 9km or maybe 3 runs @ 5/6km each.

Another experience, another dance with the devil.

You could send me to the back arse of nowhere and I’d chat the ears off a brick wall or whatever but today, I bumped into a gentlemen -him and his dog, Alfie.

Small word, he’s done a few sessions in before and here he was on his run, not only did Ronan say hello - he stayed, he ran side by side, we chatted all things trail, competitions and before I knew it - I pinged a new fastest 5km and clocked up 7km no problem!

Big thanks to Ronan, breaking down of the trails in Kilruddery/Belmont, running club with on Wednesday and trail comps.

-

Distance; 9.13km
Time; 1 hour & 10 minutes
Total Ascent; 679ft
Fastest 5km achieved 🏆

Trail Run 🏃🏼‍♂️ ✅

I find when I’m pinched for time and commitment to work in the am and pm, the last thing I want to do in my spare time is to go back into a gym or home gym and train.

Running has always been the go to, whether I can run efficiently is a different debate but I do enjoy it.

The basic road running - looking at pacing, getting caught up at pacings and HR zones - don’t get a kick out of it when I’m just looking to get out.

I find trail running the job - headphones or not - the various elevations, turns, where the f**k am I going literally keeps me on my toes.

The sense of being ‘lost’ gives me a thrill - how will I get back, where do I go, am I fit enough to bate on and maybe, who’s going to kidnap me.

Location; Giltspur Lane - kilrudery loop.
Distance; 5.18km
Pace; 7:03
Elevation/Ascent; 357ft
