It is with great sadness that Ballaghaderreen GAA learned of the passing of Mayo County Board Chairperson and proud Breaffy GAA man, Seamus Tuohy.
Seamus was a great friend to Ballaghaderreen GAA, most recently speaking at the homecoming of Sam Maguire to Ballaghaderreen on Thursday, 30th July last.
His contribution to our Association was immense, and his passing leaves a profound sense of loss across the county.
He served as Liaison Officer to the Mayo Minor All-Ireland-winning team in 2013, in his role as Bord na nÓg Chairperson, and again to the All-Ireland-winning U21 team in 2016, in his role as Mayo GAA Vice-Chairperson.
In July 2026, when Mayo finally achieved the dream that so many of us thought might never come true, Seamus had the honour, as Chairperson, of leading Mayo GAA on that famous day.
Off the field, he was passionate about the role of volunteers and keenly aware that the strength of our Association came from its clubs and the volunteers and players who drive Mayo forward.
Under his stewardship, Mayo GAA developed new facilities at MacHale Park for all our teams and began the process of developing the Mayo Centre of Excellence in Bohola.
Through his work with the HSE, Seamus was a keen advocate of the GAA’s Health and Wellbeing Initiative. He was the first Chairperson of the Mayo Health and Wellbeing Committee and also served on the National Health and Wellbeing Committee.
Seamus brought an enormous level of commitment, energy and passion to all these projects.
His knowledge, leadership, courage and friendship will be greatly missed.
On behalf of Ballaghaderreen GAA, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to Seamus’s wife, Marie; his adored children, Shona and Evan; his son-in-law, Peter, and daughter-in-law, Amy; his cherished grandchildren, Ave, Aedamar and Isla; his brother, Tom; his sisters, Mary, Claire, Helen and Brid; and his wider family, neighbours and friends.
Seamus was predeceased by his father, Tom, his mother, Claire, and his sister, Christina.
Seamus will repose in the Dr Michael Loftus Room, MacHale Park, F23 AC90, on Friday, 25th September, from 4pm, with removal at 7.30pm to his residence.

Removal from his residence on Saturday at 1.30pm for Requiem Mass at 3pm in St Aloysius Church, Breaffy, followed by burial in Breaffy Cemetery.
