HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!

The sun is out. Hurrah 🙌🏻 ☀️

But remember to hydrate and replace lost electrolytes.

A Simple Homemade Electrolyte Drink
To help replenish minerals lost through sweat, try adding lemon, salt, and honey to your water both for class and if you are spending lots of time outside during this hot spell. It’s a natural and easy way to support hydration.

Here’s a basic recipe:
* ¼ to ½ a lemon

* A pinch of sea salt or Himalayan pink salt

* 1 tsp of local honey

Dissolve the ingredients in a small amount of hot (not boiling) water first. This ensures everything blends smoothly. I would even scrape out the lemon and add the pulp. Then add to your water bottle for a refreshing and tasty electrolyte drink.

At the studio we offer classes to suit all ages and levels

Our motto is - Yoga is for Every Body, As We Bend it for You.

A question I am frequently asked is - What is the difference between hot yoga and regular yoga?

My immediate answer to this is - hot yoga is exactly what it says on the tin - it’s yoga done in heat.

Hatha yoga is the balancing of the mind and body through physical postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) preparing for meditation and stillness. Hot yoga is a form of Hatha yoga.

But the heat does much more than simply make you sweat.

A heated room helps warm the muscles more quickly, which can improve mobility and make movement feel easier. Many students find they can access postures more comfortably because the body is already warm and supple. The heat also increases your heart rate, making hot yoga feel more physically demanding and giving it a cardiovascular element that is less pronounced in many regular yoga classes.

Another key difference is the style and structure of the class. Many hot yoga classes, like what we do at Hot Yoga Athlone, follow a set sequence of postures. This consistency allows students to track their progress over time and develop a deeper understanding of each posture. In contrast, many regular yoga classes vary their sequence from class to class.

The mental challenge is different too. Practising in a heated room requires focus, patience and resilience. Learning to stay calm and breathe steadily when things become uncomfortable is often where the real growth happens. For many people, this mental training is just as valuable as the physical benefits.

Some people love the intensity, structure and challenge of a heated practice. Others prefer the gentler pace and variety that often comes with non-heated classes.

The best style of yoga is ultimately the one that you enjoy enough to practise consistently. Whether the room is heated or not, the benefits come from showing up, moving your body, focusing your mind and making time for yourself.

Our Summer FREE outdoor yoga classes continue this weekend.

This month we are heading to Buccaneers Rugby Club, Dubarry Park, Athlone on Saturday June 20th at 2pm.

This is open to all, young and old. No experience necessary.

Wear stretchy clothing and trainers. Bring a yoga mat. Don’t have one? Don’t worry we have lots.

We are delighted to be running this alongside projectsauna who will also have their coffee wagon there. If you fancy a sauna session afterwards check out their profile.

This is, of course, weather permitting.

Please keep an eye on the website or social media. Like last time, I may have to cancel on Saturday morning but it’s looking like it’s going to be dry and if it is I will there ready and waiting. 😅😅

The room is heated to 39/40 degrees Celsius with 40% humidity.

The benefits of the humid heat are manifold and include -

1 - it allows the body to stretch more safely, reducing the risk of injury. But as always you move slowly and safely.

2 - the heavy humid air works the heart and lungs for a cardiovascular workout.

3 - It creates sweat which helps cleanse the skin and indirectly helps detox by working the kidneys and liver, the organs that help breakdown and filter toxins.

4 - It helps with mental and physical focus.

5 - it emulates the climate of India, the home of yoga.
