Galway classic cycle race

Following the cancellation of the Great Gravel Adventure we put out a call to the registered riders despite the cancellation 23 people travelled from all over the country to join us today for a no-fee, no-frills, no-drop ride of the 80k course and it turned out to be a great bit of craic with a lovely bunch of cycling enthusiasts!🙌 a small bit of mud collected and a little dampness in the socks but otherwise smiles all round 😀💪🏼

Events Cancelled:
Due to low entries we at Galway Bay CC unfortunately have to cancel both the Great Gravel Adventure on June 6th and the Galway Classic on June 7th. Neither event is sustainable. We would like to genuinely thank all those who entered and supported the events and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this might cause you, and hope you find an enjoyable alternative for this weekend. Refunds will be sent in the coming days - no need to contact us it will be made automatically to you.

Friday at 9pm was the closing time for all entries to the Great Gravel Adventure on June 6th and the Galway Classic road race on June 7th.

Unfortunately numbers are too low at the moment ro run either event. The club wishes to make it clear to all interested that at 12pm tomorrow (Thursday) if numbers remain low we will have no choice but to cancel the events to avoid incurring further financial losses. Regards.

A flavour of the off road sectors in the Galway Classic on Sunday…each lap has almost 5km of very rideable compact gravel with each race once again finishing on the Ryehill Demesne gravel sector 🏆 There’s no rain forecast for Sunday but overnight rain should make for damp gravel sectors and more epic photos!! 😀👊 don’t forget to register before 9pm Friday…no exceptions. www.greatgraveladventure.com/galway-classic

Think about tyres!!! 🤔

The Galway Classic on June 7th is irelands only road race with gravel sectors and probably the only race where you seriously need to think about tyre choice!

If there’s one piece of advice we can give riders having run 6 editions of this race is that you should prioritise robustness over pure racing speed…sure, it’s a balance to be struck but you can probably guarantee a good result if you run something on the more robust side of things. Puncture in one of the sectors and that good result is probably gone! You have to be in it to win it!😜💪🏼
