👏⚽ As we come to the end of the final week of our Summer Camps at Athenry FC, we want to say a massive thank you to all of our fantastic coaches! ❤️🤍

Many of them are current or former Athenry FC players who give up their time to make these camps such a brilliant experience for all the kids. Without their commitment, energy and enthusiasm, none of this would be possible. 💪⚽

A huge thanks you also goes to our Camp
Co-ordinator Kevin McCarthy, our Head of Football Stephen Lally, and our Goalkeeping Academy Lead David Keane, as well as Breda Fox for all of her help each and every morning. 🙌

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the late Billy Caulfield, former player, manager and chairman of St Mary's GAA Club Athenry, on his untimely passing.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Unfortunately, earlier today, we were devastated to learn of the sudden passing of our Club Legend and Dear Friend Billy Caulfield.

Billy was a true gent, a loyal clubman and a great supporter of all things maroon and white. Few things outside of family, brought more joy to Billy than seeing our club participating and succeeding on the hurling fields.

Billy’s gentlemanly character, infectious smile and laugh and huge presence will be sorely missed around our club and the playing fields of Galway.

A more detailed tribute will follow in due course.

A book of condolences will be opened from this evening in our clubhouse to allow people to pay tribute in their own time to Billy.

Week 1 of our soccer camps is complete!
Brilliant to see so many kids enjoying their summer with friends while improving their skills on the pitch.
A huge well done to the organisers and coaches who gave up their time all week to make it happen.

Week 2 starts next week when the fun continues.

Win for Athenry O35 B team in 1st outing.

Athenry O35 Bs got their first points on the board for the season with a hard fought win against a tough Loughrea team.
Resolute defending throughout the game and some moments of magic and luck were key in Athenry's victory. With the game ebbing away and looking like both teams settling for a draw, the ball was shunted out the right wing for a rampaging John O'Dowd to get onto. His arrowed cross beat all the loughrea defenders and was cushioned down expertly by Colin Bane for the onrushing Steven Kearns to gleefully lash the ball into the roof of the Loughrea net. Complete pandemonium on the Athenry bench and on the pitch as the first points were within touching distance. Athenry's resolute defence still had a few minutes to soak up some Loughrea pressure but the welcoming final whistle arrived to announce a 1-0 win for Athenry.
Special mention to MOTM Kevin "Yorky" Murphy who revelled in his new deep lying playmaker role. And an excellent debut for deadline day signing Matthew Butterworth.

Next up for the Bs is another home game against Moyne Villa.

This was a very competitive game played on a wet, windy and cold evening in Drom.
The first half was end to end and even though it was Athenry that had the better of the chances, it was Salthill that broke the deadlock on the half hour.
The second half was much the same, until Geoff Claffey got Athenry level with a brave header, with about 8 minutes left to play.
From there it looked like the points were going to be shared, but in the last couple of minutes, Marc Walsh sealed the win for Athenry.
