Athenry Community Playground

Update!

It has been a busy week down at the Playground! The old equipment has been removed and the workmen are preparing the ground for the installation of the new units!
The robinia play equipment has travelled across the continent and is ready to be built and installed.

Thanks to Kompan for working steadily in this weather and for working with us to progress as quickly as possible!

Lots of boys and girls have been down to see the works and the workmen (Alan and Alan) have been so friendly to them! We will keep them topped up with ice cream and sandwiches. It’s no joke in this heat!

The construction of the Junior Play Area will commence on Monday. 🥳

We, as a committee are very excited to see all of the newness!

********PLAYGROUND CLOSURE********
Athenry Playground will close temporarily on Monday, 6th of July for at least four weeks to allow for the renovation to take place!

The playground will not be accessible during this time but access through the park will be maintained. 🚧

We are very excited to see KOMPAN on site on Monday and for the delivery of all the new equipment!

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to opening a beautiful new playground very soon! So get your last few swings and zip lining in this weekend!

Our Big Day Out will take place on Saturday, 8th of August - more information coming very soon.

This is a very exciting time for the children in Athenry and we appreciate all your support in achieving this dream! 🌈

We are so delighted to support the opening of Athenry Community Garden & Nature Park through the SICAP Programme. Come along on Saturday, June 27th, from 2 to 5pm and get to know the garden, the community and the landscape around us. This is a living, working space, so bring your boots and gloves and let's grow together.
The Community Garden is located at Gortnahown, Athenry, Co. Galway near Páirc Na hAbhainn estate.
This is an Amicitia project with support from Galway County Council and Community Foundation Ireland.

📣 UPDATE 📣 We are very happy to announce that we have an official start date for the renovation of Athenry Community Playground! Hallelujah 🙌🏻

🥳 MONDAY, 6th of JULY 🥳

We had hoped it would start in June however, due to several weeks of bad weather, Kompan’s other projects were delayed.

We know this has been a long time coming and the work behind the scenes to make this happen has been intense but we have a new playground in sight!

The playground will close for at least 4 weeks, all weather dependent as new wetpour cannot be put in if it’s raining.

Let’s hope the sun shines for the month of July! 🤞🏻 🌞

Our Big Day Out will go ahead as scheduled on Saturday, 8th of August. More information on that will be coming soon but suffice to say it will be another great day in Athenry!! 🖼️ 🧘‍♀️ 🪘 🎨

We want to thank everyone for their support to date and their patience as this renovation goes ahead with over €170,000 worth of works and equipment going in to the playground. It will be so worth it!

We will keep you all posted! We are as keen as you all to have a safe place for our children to play in Athenry. 🛝

To keep our Makers Mart true to its spirit, we ask that all applicants sell handmade products they have personally created.

Factory-made or mass-produced items are not eligible and applications for these will not be accepted.

Can you turn a child into a tiger, butterfly, superhero… or at least something recognisable? 😄
The Athenry Community Playground Committee is looking for volunteer face painters for our Big Day Out on August 8!
We’re looking for people with some basic art or creative experience — you don’t need to be a professional, just confident with a brush and colours.

Perfect for those who want to get their training in before work and school drop off 👊

We start with a free trial session this Wednesday June 3rd at 7am 🕖

We will host classes every Monday and Wednesday morning in the Athenry community centre

Times for the classes going forward are to be decided, but we will start with 7am this Wednesday.

Wildflowers planted in the playground!!

A big THANK YOU to Athenry Primary School, Athenry Community Garden, the Playground Committee and local farmers for collaborating on this project ahead of our big renovation next month! In 8 weeks time, the strip along the fence will be awash with colour 🌷 🌺 🌹

Just a reminder that the playground will close for the month of June as scheduled to allow for the renovation by Kompan! This is a very exciting time and we can’t wait to see our new playground! 🙌🏻

The Big Day Out returns on Saturday, 8th of August in the Park! It’s already looking to be bigger and better than last year 🥳
