The Springfield Ramblers Schoolboys Football Club facilitates the playing of schoolboys/schoolgirls football in Cobh for the boys of the town from the ages of 5 to 17 years. The club was formed when the Springfield Club and the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys clubs amalgamated to provide a single dedicated outlet for the playing of soccer for youngsters in Cobh. Schoolboys’ soccer in Cobh began in 1959 w

hen former President of the FAI Pat O’Brien and several other far seeing committee members started a football club for the young people of the town. The idea of formulating the youth club came from the late Mr O’Brien and its first Chairman was the late Paddy Kelly of Thomas Street who had been associated with the old Springfield club. The new club was funded by Church gate collections, weekly raffles and subscriptions. It has become a nursery for many stars, like Stephen O’Halloran, now with Salford City. The club has had many representatives at International level at all ages. The Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys Football Club was formed in the late nineties to provide coaching and playing facilities for boys and girls from the ages of 5 to 10 years. With the popularity of soccer in Ireland at an all time high there was a whole new generation of children who were crying out to be involved in the game. With the introduction of their Saturday morning Academy the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys Club provided a fantastic outlet for these kids to play football in a controlled and organised environment. The success of the Academy was borne out by the huge numbers of children who participated each week. As these children progressed to an age where they could take part in the competitions run by the Cork Schoolboys League the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys’ Club took on the challenge of providing the coaching role for their development. The most notable success of these efforts is the achievements of Stephen Ireland as a top class player at Aston Villa. Cobh has had a long history of participation in soccer in Cork with many teams participating in league and cup competitions over the years. There is great credit due to the many of these players who have contributed to the continuing development of the game over the years by sharing their experience and expertise in providing coaching and guidance for the development of the younger people in the town. As the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys Club continued to participate in the Cork Schoolboys League there was a realisation that the resources of both clubs were at breaking point. Trying to provide for two schoolboys clubs in Cobh was proving to be an impossible task, stretching the resources of the town from the point of view of player numbers, coaching staff and training and playing facilities. To the credit of the officers of both clubs the Springfield Schoolboys Club and the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboys Club decided to amalgamate to consolidate the state of schoolboys’ football in Cobh. The Springfield Ramblers Schoolboys Club was formed from this amalgamation. The club has gone from strength to strength and continues to field players at all ages in the Cork Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Leagues while the Academy continues to provide coaching and playing facilities for the younger boys and girls in the town. Along with the success of the players mentioned schoolboys’ soccer clubs in Cobh has achieved International Representative Honours with the following players: U21- David Myler, Schools-Martin Deady, Youths- Michael O’Shea & Peter O’Halloran, Schoolboys- Peter Nolan, Ross McCarthy, Jason Abbott, Cathal O’Hanlon & Jordan Tarrant Lowry. A new era began for the club at the start of the 2010-2011 season with the opening of Springfield Ramblers Astro Turf Pitch at the VEC Grounds in Carrignafoy. The club’s teams have been training on the pitch since the opening and all the players and coaches are thrilled with the new state of the art surface. The club has taken on a big financial commitment to fund this facility and hopes that the fruits of the venture will pay off with the success of the teams in the Cork Schoolboys Leagues. The facility will be funded by the payment of annual subscriptions of players on all teams. The pitch is used mainly for club training sessions on week nights but is also available for hire outside of these times. The Official Opening Ceremony for the new facility took place on May 21st 2011 and was performed by former Ireland International Ray Houghton and CEO of the FAI John Delaney. The grounds were rededicated as John Murphy Memorial Park to the memory of the club’s former member and officer John Murphy.

⚽️ SUMMER CAMP DAY 2 ⚽️

Day 2 of our Summer Camp is done and dusted and another great day was had by all.

There was plenty of football, plenty of fun and lots of excellent effort from everyone throughout the day. It was great to see the players continuing to improve their skills, work together and, most importantly, enjoy themselves.

A big well done to all the boys and girls for their fantastic attitude and enthusiasm once again.
We’re already looking forward to Day 3!

What a fantastic start to our Summer Football Camp! It was great to see so many young footballers enjoying themselves, making new friends, learning new skills, and playing with huge smiles on their faces.

The energy, enthusiasm, and effort from everyone was brilliant from start to finish. We can't wait to do it all again tomorrow!

Carrigaline Pottery Cup
This weekend, our U14 C team was invited to take part in the Carrigaline Pottery Cup and, after what has been a challenging season, the boys finished on a high by winning the Shield.
In the semi final, goals from Chris Donovan (2) and Jamie Ryan (1) secured a place in the final against Ballincollig.
The final was a thrilling contest, with Chris Donovan scoring a late equaliser to send the game to penalties. Jamie Ryan, Luke Courtney, and Chris Donovan all converted their spot kicks, but the hero of the day was Callum O'Shea. Not only did he score a penalty himself, he also saved two penalties in the shootout and produced a series of outstanding saves throughout the day.
On behalf of the coaches, we would like to thank all of the players and parents for their commitment, support, and effort throughout the season. After a difficult campaign, it was a fantastic way to finish the season and a reward the boys thoroughly deserved.
Congratulations to everyone involved on a brilliant achievement.

Our Football for All group wrapped up for the summer last Saturday, finishing off another brilliant year together.

The session also doubled as a birthday celebration for Lucas, and what better way to end the season than with a water fight. Coach Gavin somehow ended up being the main target, which probably surprised nobody! 💦😂

A huge thank you to all our players, families, coaches and volunteers who make this group what it is. Football for All is a massive part of our club and everything it stands for.

We're always looking to welcome new players and volunteers. The group provides a fun, supportive and inclusive environment, particularly for children who may not find mainstream football the right fit.

Yesterday we hosted a 12 team tournament at the Stephen Ireland Astro on what was an absolute fantastic occasion for our 2016 G9 team.
We had clubs from all over Cork attend & were very complimentary of the occasion.
The cup was won by Everton & the shield was won by Ringmahon FC with both finals going to penalties.
To everyone who supported the lads as 100s of people attended I can't thank you enough,thanks to Dave & his team for the shop opening and to anyone else that helped out it was a day,many parents brought extra refreshments for the kids which was very much appreciated

🏆 Football4All Awards Night 🏆

On Friday night, our Football4All group gathered in Cobh Ramblers to celebrate another fantastic year at our annual Awards Night.

Every player received an award on the night, recognising their commitment, effort and the positivity they bring to the group each week. Football4All is about much more than football. It is about friendship, inclusion, confidence and creating an environment where every player can enjoy the game and be part of a team.

The programme has grown enormously since it started three years ago and it has been incredible to see so many players develop both on and off the pitch. The continued growth of the group is something everyone involved should be proud of.

A special congratulations to Cian Higgins, winner of this year's Michael McDonnell Award. Cian has had an outstanding season and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the award. His quality on the pitch, commitment to training and love for the game have stood out throughout the year. Cian consistently sets a high standard, leads by example and has continued to develop his game every season. Whether in training or matches, he always gives his best and has been a fantastic role model for the younger players in the group. We are delighted to see his hard work and dedication recognised with this year's Michael McDonnell Award.

A huge thank you to all our players, parents, families and volunteers who make Football4All such a special part of Springfield Ramblers.
