Happy International Whale Shark Day!

The largest fish in the ocean is also one of its gentlest.

In Indonesia, we're lucky to encounter whale sharks in several regions. Cenderawasih Bay is undoubtedly the most famous, but Triton Bay also offers unforgettable encounters. Around Sumbawa, seasonal sightings have become another reason divers and non-divers keep this region on their bucket list.

Growing up to 18 metres long, these gentle giants feed mainly on plankton and small fish, reminding us that size doesn't always come with sharp teeth.

As these encounters become more popular around the world, it's also a good reminder to choose operators who put the animals first. Respectful distances, responsible practices, and patience help ensure these moments remain just as special for future generations.

We never get tired of sharing the water with them.

One of the things we enjoy most about cruising through Indonesia is that no two trips are ever quite the same.

Depending on the conditions, tides, and route, our Cruise Director and dive team can introduce new dive sites along the way. Sometimes that means a colorful reef. Sometimes a drift dive. And every now and then, a chance to explore one of Indonesia's beautiful underwater caverns.

It's all part of what makes traveling by liveaboard so rewarding. Every itinerary has its highlights, and every cruise brings a few surprises.

And for us, that also means celebrating the people who built Zen.

Our home at sea is a traditional Phinisi, handcrafted in Indonesia by skilled shipbuilders whose knowledge has been passed down through generations. Long before these beautiful wooden vessels welcomed divers from around the world, they were built to sail the Indonesian archipelago, connecting islands, communities, and cultures.
Every time we step onboard, we're reminded that Zen is more than a liveaboard. She is part of Indonesia's rich maritime heritage.

To the craftsmen, the crew, and the country we are proud to call home, Happy Independence Day.

Looking up from below, you can really appreciate its wingspan, graceful movement, and the unique markings on its belly. Just like fingerprints, no two manta rays have the same pattern.
