Top 5 Performers | Round 1, Window 3 🏀

Looking beyond the box score. As a coach, I value efficiency, decision-making, defensive impact and winning—not just points.

These rankings combine advanced analytics with each player's contribution to their team's performance throughout the window.

I've also included four Honourable Mentions who were right in the conversation but narrowly missed the Top 5, plus a glossary explaining the advanced metrics used.

Being the "first" isn’t the finish line—it’s a by-product of a system that has taken too long to change.

My goal was never just to be the first woman coaching at AfroBasket; the real work is ensuring I’m not the last. We need to move past symbolic moments and toward structural change.

This means:
🏀 Opening men’s basketball pathways to women.
📈 Providing actual professional exposure for women and,
🤝 Ensuring promotion is based on performance, not a "boys' club" handshake.

Let’s stop asking who the first is, and start asking: "What do we need to change so real inclusion is a priority for our sport?"

Over the first round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, I watched every game from Window 1 and Window 2 and then went back through the numbers — both the traditional stats and the advanced metrics.

From that analysis, these five players stood out the most.

Not just for scoring, but for the different ways they influenced games — creating offense, defending, rebounding, and impacting winning on both ends of the floor.

Swipe through to see the five performers whose impact defined the first round.

Creating opportunities matters.

Being a visible role model matters.

Inspiring and supporting the next generation matters.

Because real progress isn’t measured by individual success — it’s measured by the pathways we create for others to follow.

Lift the next woman up.

Because when we do, we don’t just change one career — we change the culture.

Happy International Women's Day 🚺
